Today I’m observing the national day of solidarity.

I’ve canceled corporate subscriptions, called and emailed my Montana delegation and I won’t buy a thing today unless it’s directly to a local person in my community.

I’m working a bit today to wrap up the week and to support my clients.

And, I’ll head outside and to the barn to regulate and restore my nervous system. It will be a day spent with slowness and connection.

How about you? What are you up to today? ❤️

It’s been hard for me to find my voice in all that’s happening in our country right now. While I don’t want to stay silent I also feel helpless.

I can’t pretend that everything is normal in our country and in the world right now. And no, this page isn’t going to suddenly be a political page. But it is and always will be a page that supports you in feeling your best, and in order to do that, we need to look to see where our body, heart ❤️ and mind experience flow and where we have friction.

Self advocacy is an important piece of whole body health.
Speak up where you can.
Choose kindness and clarity in your words and actions.
Call your state senators and representatives. Send them letters, too.
Have conversations with friends, family and neighbors.
Seek to understand one another.
Take good care of yourself so that you can be clear on your values.

With care,
Karen

Probiotics aren’t magic — they need the right gut environment to actually work. 💛 Save this if you’ve tried them all and still feel bloated.

I’m back to the “real world”. I’m not gonna lie it’s cold 🥶 and I’ve spent the work week wrapped around the heater, trying to feed myself good food while reminiscing of the warmth. And I just wonder how close my real life can look like a retreat. I’m writing ✍️ down my thoughts but I’m wondering what you think? Are our lives today just too much?? Drop me a comment 👇 or a DM. I’d love to hear from you.

Honestly? I’m tired of all the health advice online.

And this is coming from someone trained in the health field.

There’s so much conflicting information—eat this, don’t eat that, fast, don’t fast, take this supplement, avoid that one. Instead of helping, it leaves people overwhelmed and second-guessing their bodies and their inner knowing.

What actually helped me wasn’t more information. It was clarity—figuring out the right actions for MY body and then doing them consistently, over time, in real life. This is Functional Nutrition.

If this resonates, follow along. Let’s learn to honor your unique body, story, and life so you can take the right actions, consistently.

Everything I do with myself and with my clients starts and ends with the gut.

So why does my content here on IG or on my blog seem to talk about everything but the gut?

Because so much affects our gut - stress, our reactions to stress, our food, how we breathe, our thoughts, how we eat and when, our sleep quality and timing, our genes, and so much more.

And this is what makes gut health individual and specific. What works for one may not work for another.

The clues on how to support a healthy gut lie in our story, our health history, genetics, relationships, our core values and how we feel and when. It’s what I love about my job - learning about a client’s individuality and helping them to hone their own path to healing.

And, in case you didn’t know, if you have an autoimmune disease like Hashimoto’s or fatigue, brain fog, skin irritation (all things not traditionally connected to gut health), this information applies to you, too.

If you’re ready to peel back the layers to good health, drop me a message and let’s talk.

Does self care feel like selfishness to you? It did to me. Each time I go on retreat ie. take time for myself away from my native habitat, I’m reminded that I spent most of my life not caring for myself.

But over the years, I’ve learned that I have to put the oxygen mask on myself first. Without it, there isn’t enough of me to care for another.

Self care can mean many things and it’s bio individual. It can be a fully immersive retreat experience or simply taking a breath before taking a bite of food. It can be sitting in meditation or choosing food to support your body at dinner. The possibilities are infinite.

What feels like self care to you?

I help women in midlife who have gut issues, hormone imbalance and thyroid disease. My process is simple ➡️ learn how your health got to where it is now, discover what systems of your body are working well and which ones aren’t, then make small changes that are strategically chosen, so your body begins to remember how to be more in balance. Specializing in SIBO, IBS and Hashimoto’s.

But first, wrapping up the week of client care and support.

I love cooking at the library. Today’s focus was on using the air fryer- which was totally new to me! Plus, a discussion on yams vs sweet potatoes, white vs red garlic and whether tofu is a fermented product. If you know anything about these things- let me know in the comments.

Winter ❄️ slows digestion. It’s natural.

Cold temperatures reduce blood flow to the gut, and can cause an increase in bloating, more sluggish digestion, and an increase in cravings this time of year.

And BTW - cravings also come as the changing light affects mood.

Support your gut with warming, grounding foods this winter:
• Soups and stews
• Roasted root vegetables and winter squash
• Cooked greens instead of raw salads
• Fermented foods (sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt)
• Fiber-rich plants like oats, beans, lentils, and seeds
• Garlic, onions, and leeks to feed your microbiome
• Warming spices: ginger, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper

Hydrate—even when you don’t feel thirsty.

Go easy on sugar (low fiber + high sugar and high fat comfort foods = a “sad” microbiome).

Let winter be slower. Slow down, rest.

Work with the season—not against it.
