✨ When Should a 20-Week Anatomy Exam Be Performed? ✨
The anatomy scan — often called the 20-week ultrasound or anomaly scan — is routinely done between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy, with many providers aiming for 18–20 weeks for best visualization of structures. This exam evaluates how your baby’s organs and body parts are developing and checks key features like the brain, heart, spine, limbs, placenta, and amniotic fluid.

🤰 What’s Included in a Standard OB Anatomy Protocol?
A general second-trimester anatomy scan evaluates:
• Fetal biometry (head, abdomen, femur measurements)
• Heart rate and basic heart structure
• Brain, spine, face, limbs
• Placental position and amniotic fluid
• Umbilical cord and maternal pelvic anatomy
This is the standard anatomy survey performed in low-risk pregnancies.

📈 What’s Included in an MFM (Detailed/Level II) Protocol?
A Maternal-Fetal Medicine protocol is more comprehensive and is used in high-risk situations or when there are indications for a detailed exam. It includes everything in the routine scan plus additional detailed evaluation such as:
• Detailed views of intracranial structures (ventricles, cerebellum, cavum septum pellucidum)
• Measurement of brain and other organ systems
• Detailed heart evaluation including outflow tracts
• Doppler assessments of specific vessels
• Detailed facial and skeletal imaging
• Careful placenta and umbilical assessment
This level of detail helps detect subtle anomalies and provides a thorough survey when there’s increased risk.

💛 At Sound Diagnostics, we elevate care by performing anatomy scans using the MFM protocol and having each study read by an MFM radiologist — giving you greater detail, accuracy, and expert interpretation for critical pregnancy milestones.

Say hello to Bozeman’s Ultrasound facility.

Say hello to Bozeman's medical and elective imaging facility, Sound Diagnostics Ultrasound. As the proud owner of Sound Diagnostics Ultrasound I would like to welcome you to Bozeman's first privately owned ultrasound imaging center. Having lived in Montana for the past 10 years, I am excited to finally provide an alternative ultrasound experience to our community. Offering the highest quality 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound imaging allows us to provide the most personal and unique experience. Our goal at Sound Diagnostics Ultrasound is to provide the utmost quality and care to our patients. We not only want to meet your expectations, we want to exceed them! We are here to provide diagnostic and elective ultrasound to our community in a warm non-sterile environment. On average our medical ultrasounds are half the cost of other imaging facilities/hospitals in our area and we accept all major insurances as well as Medicaid and Medicare. Our elective ultrasounds are priced affordably for self pay individuals. In addition to offering full medical ultrasounds for men and women we also offer early 8 week DNA gender blood tests (99.6% accuracy), gender ultrasounds starting at 14 weeks, and of course our 3D/4D elective prenatal . We exclusively employ Sonographers registered with ARDMS to maintain a safe and high quality environment for our patients. Our board-certified, state licensed Radiologists interpret all of our general, small parts, and vascular medical ultrasounds. All medical obstetric ultrasounds are interpreted by our board-certified Perinatologist, Dr. Fausett. Dr. Fausett has served hundreds of families in western Montana over the years and has become a well known maternal fetal medicine provider in our area.
