🎬🍿 Lights, Camera, Action at Madame Tussauds! 🍿🎬

Our teens stepped right into the world of TV and film at Madame Tussauds in Orlando—and they had an absolute blast! 😄

From posing with famous movie stars 🎥 to interacting with iconic TV characters 📺, they fully embraced the experience and brought the scenes to life with their creativity and energy!

There were so many laughs, dramatic poses, and unforgettable moments as they explored and “met” some of the biggest stars from the screen 🌟🙌

Who needs Hollywood when you’ve got a crew like this?! 😉✨

Vision loss isn’t just something that happens later in life.

It can affect children.
Families.
Anyone.

But with the right support, everything changes.

Confidence grows.
Independence returns.
Possibility opens back up.

At the Lighthouse Vision Loss Center, we walk alongside every step of that journey.

Think again.

It could be you.
Or someone you love.

And when that moment comes… everything changes.

Fear.
Uncertainty.
Loss of independence.

That’s where we come in.

🎢🎉 Fun, challenges, and determination at Fun Spot Orlando! 🎉🎢

Our teens had an exciting day at Fun Spot where they got to experience rides, thrills, and hands-on real-world skill building! From navigating lines to getting on and off rides, this was a great opportunity to practice O&M (Orientation & Mobility) skills in a fast-paced, community environment 🧭💪

From go-kart racing🏎️ to flying swings 🎡 and bumper boats 🚤, the fun never stopped!
While we had an amazing time, we also learned that Fun Spot isn’t the most wheelchair-friendly environment, which definitely created some challenges along the way. But that didn’t stop us! With determination, teamwork, and a little extra problem-solving, we made sure everyone had the opportunity to participate and enjoy the experience 💙

We’re so proud of our teens for their flexibility, resilience, and willingness to try new things—and for making the most out of every moment! 🙌

🎢💙

🏡✨ Why Our Teens LOVE Airbnb Stays! ✨🏡
One thing our teens always say after these trips… they LOVE staying in Airbnbs! 😄

While hotels are nice, Airbnbs give us something extra—space, comfort, and real-life learning opportunities 💪

Having access to a full kitchen allows our teens to practice cooking skills 🍳, work together to prepare meals, and learn what it takes to plan and clean up after a group. These are skills they can take with them into independent living!

They also get to experience what it’s like to share a home, take responsibility for their space, and build routines that mirror real-world living 🧺🛏️
It’s more than just a place to stay—it’s a hands-on learning environment where independence, teamwork, and confidence grow every day 💙

🏡✨ Living the Airbnb Life! ✨🏡

Our teens had such a great time staying together in a beautiful Airbnb during our spring break trip! 😄

Not only did they enjoy having their own space to relax, hang out, and bond, but it also gave them the opportunity to learn important life skills along the way 💪

We talked about the differences between staying in a hotel vs. an Airbnb, including expectations, responsibilities, and what it means to care for a shared space 🧺🛏️

One of the best parts? Having the ability to cook meals together 🍳 and do laundry 🧼—real-life skills that build independence and confidence!
This Airbnb also had some fun built-in games like air hockey and foosball 🏒⚽, and we brought our own favorites too—UNO and even some rounds of Simon Says had everyone laughing and engaged! 🎲😄

Experiences like this help our teens prepare for the future while still having fun and making amazing memories 💙

There were so many laughs, creative poses, and unforgettable moments as they explored and “met” some of the most influential figures in sports and music 🌟🙌

💙🍳 Cooking, Connections & New Friendships! 🍳💙

One of the most meaningful parts of our trip was the opportunity to connect with other teens from across the state at Lighthouse Central Florida 🙌
While cooking together and sharing meals, our teens built genuine friendships with new faces—some of whom you’ll see here like Grace, Hannah, and Bri 😊 They laughed together, worked side by side, exchanged phone numbers, and created connections that will continue long after this trip ends 📱💫

There’s something so powerful about realizing that no matter where life takes you, you can find your people. Friendships can be built anywhere, and now our teens know they have connections not just here at home, but in other cities too 💙

It’s more than just a trip—it’s confidence, community, and the understanding that you are never alone. We are already looking forward to seeing these friendships continue to grow at summer camp! ☀️🙌

🌊🧭 Navigating New Environments & Exploring Careers at SEA LIFE Aquarium! 🐠✨

Our teens took on a unique challenge at SEA LIFE Aquarium—navigating a darker, unfamiliar environment while practicing their O&M (Orientation & Mobility) skills 🧭💪 From low lighting to crowded walkways, they worked on safe travel techniques, awareness of surroundings, and building confidence in a real-world setting 👏

In addition to skill-building, this experience also opened the door to career exploration! The teens learned about the different roles that make an aquarium run—from animal care specialists to marine biologists 🐠🔬

They explored what it takes to work in marine biology and the responsibilities involved in caring for sea life, sparking curiosity and new interests along the way 🌊💡

Hands-on experiences like this help connect learning to real-world possibilities—and our teens did an amazing job rising to the challenge! 💙

Independence in action 👏

What does independence look like?

For Transition teens Mercy and Cooper, it looks like confidently navigating real-world environments through community integration training with O&M Specialist Latricia Gambrell.

From the UTC Mall to downtown Bradenton, they practiced essential travel skills—ascending and descending stairs, using elevators and escalators, and safely crossing streets in busy areas.

Each step forward builds confidence, safety, and lifelong independence.

We are so proud of their dedication and growth. 💙

Our Story

The Lighthouse was officially established as a not for profit agency in 1985 by a group of people who themselves, were visually impaired. Together with the support of area eye specialists and community donors, these volunteers spent countless hours to secure funding and the 501(c) 3 status for the agency originally known as Mana-Sota Lighthouse for the Blind.
