We’re honored to share that Be My Eyes has won the 2025 Apple App Store Award in the Cultural Impact category! 🎉

Out of more than 2 million apps on the App Store, only 45 were nominated across all categories, and just 12 winners were selected. To be recognized in Cultural Impact is an extraordinary honor, and a powerful validation of what our community has built together.

This award is also a heartfelt recognition of our founder, Hans Jørgen Wiberg, whose vision has helped millions connect, support one another, and make the world more accessible.

To our global community - blind and low-vision users, volunteers, partners, and team members thank you. This award belongs to all of you! 💙

🎉 Congratulations to Our Very Own Judi Boylan! 🎉
We are thrilled to announce that Judi Boylan has been awarded the 2025 Michael Phillips Award for Excellence in Assistive Technology, presented annually by FAAST.org.

This prestigious honor recognizes one exceptional individual in Florida each year who has made a significant and lasting impact in the field of assistive technology. As we all know, Judi gives her absolute best every single day, and she is beyond deserving of this award—and many more.

About the Michael Phillips Award

Created in 2020 by Florida’s Assistive Technology Advisory Council, this award celebrates individuals who embody the spirit and legacy of Michael “Mike” Phillips, a pioneer whose passion for accessibility transformed the future of assistive technology in Florida. Mike was known for breaking through obstacles with innovative A.T. tools, empowering collaboration, and inspiring others to create solutions for people with disabilities.

Former Governor Jeb Bush was so moved by Mike’s dedication that he expanded and protected funding for FAAST, ensuring individuals with disabilities would have increased access to life-changing assistive technology resources.

Today, the award honors those who continue that legacy—those who advance accessibility, champion A.T. solutions, and transform lives through their commitment to innovation and inclusion.

What This Award Represents

To be selected, nominees must live in Florida and be involved in A.T. as a professional, advocate, volunteer, user, family member, or caregiver. The recipient is chosen by the Assistive Technology Advisory Council’s Technology Awareness Committee, making this a highly selective and meaningful recognition.

Why Judi Is So Deserving

Judi embodies every facet of this award’s mission. Her heart, dedication, and depth of expertise make a profound difference in the lives of the individuals and families we serve. She shows up with passion, compassion, and unwavering commitment—every single day—to ensure that assistive technology remains accessible, empowering, and life-changing.

Please join us in giving Judi a heartfelt congratulations on this extraordinary achievement.
Thank you, Judi, for all that you do for our community! Your impact is felt every day, and we are so proud of you. 💛👏

As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the individuals and families we have had the privilege to serve. At Lighthouse Vision Loss Center, every day is a reminder that vision loss does not diminish a person’s dreams, talents, or potential—it simply changes the tools they need to thrive.

Support Lighthouse today, on Giving Tuesday, or anytime yet this year to ensure that no one faces vision loss alone, and that everyone has the opportunity to learn, adapt, and thrive.

🌊 Lighthouse Children’s Program Adventure 🌟

Our Lighthouse Children’s Program kiddos had an incredible day developing their love for science and nature during a recent trip to the Mote Science Education Aquarium!

Through hands-on sensory experiences, the children explored marine life, discovered new textures and sounds, and connected with the underwater world in meaningful ways. 🐠✨

We love creating opportunities that inspire curiosity, confidence, and joyful learning for our students. 💙

Our Story

The Lighthouse was officially established as a not for profit agency in 1985 by a group of people who themselves, were visually impaired. Together with the support of area eye specialists and community donors, these volunteers spent countless hours to secure funding and the 501(c) 3 status for the agency originally known as Mana-Sota Lighthouse for the Blind.
