Eight-year-old Oliver from Vermont recently wrote a letter to his local newspaper encouraging kids in his community to stay up to date on their vaccines to keep themselves and those around them healthy.

“I have gotten all my vaccines. They have helped me stay healthy even though I have asthma. I’m really worried that people will start getting sick if they don’t have vaccines,” said Oliver.

Vaccines remain the best tool we have to keep kids and their communities healthy and thriving. Thank you, Oliver, for sharing such an important message!

It may be chilly outside but that won’t stop us from getting outside to exercise and enjoy the crisp air this winter! ❄️ Bundle up and go on a family walk together, make snow people or angels, or try sledding if your area got some fresh powder! Too cold to go outside? Try putting some fun music on and have a dance party to get some movement in!

🦠 Flu Season Is Here — Let’s Keep Kids Healthy! 💙

The flu can spread quickly, especially among children, but the good news is there are simple steps families can take to help prevent illness and support recovery when kids don’t feel their best.

✨ Flu Prevention Tips for Kids:
✔️ Get the annual flu vaccine — it’s the best protection against serious illness
✔️ Wash hands often with soap and water
✔️ Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow
✔️ Stay home and rest when feeling sick to protect others

💊 If Your Child Has the Flu:
🤧 Encourage plenty of fluids to stay hydrated
😴 Make sure they get lots of rest and sleep
🤍 Provide comfort and monitor symptoms
📞 Reach out to us with any questions or concerns

🚨 Call our office right away if your child has:
• Trouble breathing
• Persistent high fever
• Signs of dehydration
• Worsening symptoms or concerns

At Upper Valley Pediatrics, we’re here to support your family through every season — from prevention to recovery. If you’re unsure whether your child needs to be seen or have questions about flu symptoms, treatment, or vaccination, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

💙 Together, we can help keep our Upper Valley community healthy.

✨ The holidays can be magical… and overwhelming!
With bright lights, busy gatherings, new noises, and changes in routine, it’s normal for kids to feel overstimulated this time of year. 💛

Here are a few sensory-friendly strategies that can help little ones stay calm and comfortable:
🌟 Find a quiet space
🎧 Use noise-cancelling headphones
🏃‍♂️ Take a movement break
🎨 Do a calming activity

Every child is unique — and so are their needs. If you ever have questions about your child’s sensory responses or behavior during the holidays, our UVP team is always here to support you. 💙
