From velvet bows to metallic comfort, these festive picks are proof that style and support can go hand in hand. As a podiatrist (and shoe lover!), I’m sharing some of my favorite pairs that let you dance, mingle, and celebrate—without sore feet the next morning.

💚 1️⃣ Sézane “High Eulalie Babies” – Green Velvet
A vintage-inspired heel with ankle stability and a soft velvet finish. The block heel + strap combo gives style and support.

❤️ 2️⃣ Vivaia “Juliana” Slingback – Ruby Red
Sustainably made, flexible knit upper, and wide toe box comfort. A great option for those who stand or walk often.

🥈 3️⃣ Sneex “The Tepper” – Silver Sport Heel
A sneaker-heel hybrid that’s a conversation starter and surprisingly ergonomic. (Perfect for sneaker lovers who want height!)

🌟 4️⃣ Dansko “Danica” – Silver Loafer
Cushioned, arch-supportive, and metallic chic. A sensible option that still feels festive.

💎 5️⃣ Vionic “Perris Slingback Heel” – Champagne Shimmer
Elegant lines with podiatrist-approved design—ideal for all-night events where comfort matters.

🦶✨
Your feet deserve holiday cheer too!

It’s a hot topic! Barefoot shoes vs maximalist shoes… we can use both in the right settings for optimal foot health.

Research fact:
Studies show that training in minimalist footwear (like Xero Shoes or barefoot-style designs) improves intrinsic foot muscle strength, balance, and proprioception — all key for long-term arch support and stability.
But… living your entire life in them isn’t good for long term foot health no matter your foot type. Modern environments — hard concrete, tile, and long workdays — place repetitive stress on the feet that nature never intended.

As a foot and ankle surgeon, I see issues at both extremes:
• 🦶 Runners who never strengthen their feet — weak arches, instability, pain.
• 🏙️ Minimalist purists who live barefoot-style 24/7 — SEVERE midfoot arthritis in their 40s, overuse injuries, stress fractures, tendinopathies etc.

The sweet spot?
👉 Train your feet like athletes — give them challenge and movement freedom WHEN you can focus on them (at the gym or your home).
👉 Live your daily life in shoes and orthotics that support and protect like

There is a balance we can create like so many things in life.

Think of it like cross-training: your feet need strength sessions as well as recovery gear.

Your feet are your foundation — build them strong, but don’t leave them unprotected.

What the two shoes above have in common is the natural shaped toe box. That is a characteristic I wish were present in more shoes!

More on this to come. Let me know if you have questions in the comments on this hot topic.

I’ve had several conversations with parents who have small children who ALMOST lost their kids in the mix on Halloween. Next year, consider these thoughtfully designed Sketchers to keep track of them!

🎥 When comfort meets confidence on the trail…

After my recent injury (tennis leg), I was nervous to get back to hiking — until I laced up the KURU RIDGE Motion. These shoes were designed with real foot mechanics in mind:
👣 Ergonomic heel cradle for natural alignment
🌿 Lightweight support that absorbs uneven terrain
🚶🏽‍♀️ Cushioning that feels like recovery in motion with a stable rocker sole

Even on a mild forest trail, my feet and legs felt stable, protected, and pain-free — something I don’t take for granted as a foot & ankle surgeon and someone still healing.

If you’ve been holding back from outdoor adventures because of foot pain or past injury, these might just be your comeback shoes…. Also, if you want to prevent any issues!

Not all UGGs are created equal. 👀 While many styles lack support and can lead to pain, the UGG Brooklyn Hikers are actually built for your feet. They’re sturdy, supportive, and a great option for long days on the move. 👣✨

✨ The “Elsa Procedure” Explained! ❄️
You don’t need a magic wand to stop Morton’s neuroma pain—just advanced technology and precision.

At the Center for Morton’s Neuroma, we use cryoablation, a technique that freezes the affected nerve with a tiny “ice ball” reaching -70°C. ❄️ This stops nerve transmission and helps relieve pain without surgery.

All of our treatments are performed under ultrasound guidance for accuracy and consistent results.

👣 Chronic foot pain doesn’t have to end in surgery.

Chronic foot pain should not be a life sentence. ❄️✨ Our patients call it the “Elsa Procedure” because it freezes away the pain—and for many, it means getting back to walking, running, and living without surgery.

If you’ve been told your only option is surgery, swipe through. There ARE innovative, nonsurgical treatments—and hope. 💛 Our center also offers Radiofrequency or alcohol ablation and platelet-rich plasma injections as often bursitis and joint pain accompany neuromas. We do a throughout evaluation and also consider personalized physical therapy plans and custom orthotics.

Save this for later and share with someone who needs answers.

T-Pain knows “pain is not gain” when it comes to his feet—he’s wearing HOKAs on stage for optimal comfort and support, and honestly, more performers should do the same! What, I love the most is how he customized them!

Your shoes matter—especially when you’re battling foot pain including pain from a Morton’s neuroma. 👣
At our clinic, our staff trusts HOKA, Altra, and Topo for all-day comfort because they check the two boxes we care about most:
✔️ Adequate forefoot width (more room = less nerve irritation)
✔️ Rocker sole design (reduces forefoot pressure with every step)

Small shoe changes can make a big difference in pain levels.
Your feet deserve support that works with you, not against you. 💙

Heels/wedges are the right recovery shoe when you have any calf strain (like me) or Achilles issue. Of course, there are important rehab exercises like cross-fiber massage and gentle stretching as well (more on this later!).
