👟TAKING A STEP OF FAITH: PROVIDING DIABETIC SHOES👟

A huge THANK YOU to The Skaggs Foundation for supporting Neighbor's Pharmacy patients receiving Diabetic Shoes! These shoes are essential for people with diabetes who are more likely to lose feeling in their feet, develop sores, and don't heal quickly.
Good fitting shoes and education from a diabetic shoe fitter from Alps Pharmacy (Carla on the left) and help from UMKC School of Pharmacy (Allison on the right) help people keep their feet healthy and improve overall wellness!

The Power of Partnership: When Policy Meets Purpose at My Neighbor's Charitable Pharmacy

Tuesday 10/23/2025 marked a pivotal moment for healthcare accessibility in Missouri when Daniel Seitz, Chief of Staff to Senator Brad Hudson, visited our team at My Neighbor's Charitable Pharmacy. What began as an informational meeting transformed into something far more significant—a genuine partnership opportunity that could reshape how we approach medication access for underserved communities across our state.
As I walked Daniel through our facility and explained our mission, I watched his expression shift from professional curiosity to genuine amazement. His initial assumption that we offered discounted medications gave way to astonishment when he learned that we don't charge patients anything for their medications. Zero. Not reduced prices, not sliding scales, but completely free access to essential medicines for those who qualify.
What impressed me most wasn't just Daniel's surprise, but his immediate pivot to strategic thinking drawing on his extensive experience and he began outlining concrete ways our partnership could benefit both our patients and the broader Missouri healthcare landscape.
His invitation for us to speak to senators and representatives during the next legislative session in Jefferson City represents more than just an opportunity to share our story. It's a chance to advocate for systemic change that could expand charitable pharmacy models statewide, creating a robust safety net for the thousands of Missourians who fall through the cracks of traditional healthcare coverage.
The Class Q Charitable Pharmacy designation, which allows organizations like ours to operate, was itself born from policy advocacy. Now, we have the opportunity to build on that foundation, demonstrating how charitable pharmacies can serve as essential healthcare infrastructure rather than just supplemental services.
When Daniel saw our operation firsthand, he understood that we're not just filling prescriptions, we're filling gaps in a healthcare system that too often leaves people choosing between essential medications and basic necessities.
Our work at My Neighbor's Charitable Pharmacy represents what's possible when community need meets innovative policy. We've proven that charitable pharmacies can operate effectively, serve thousands of patients, and maintain the highest standards of pharmaceutical care while removing the financial barrier that prevents so many from accessing their medications.

Looking Ahead, as we prepare for our opportunity to speak in Jefferson City, I'm energized by the potential for expanding this model. Every conversation like the one we had with Daniel Seitz moves us closer to a Missouri where no one has to choose between their health and their financial stability.
Thank you to Daniel Seitz for taking the time to truly understand our mission and for seeing the broader potential for impact. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a meaningful partnership in service of Missouri's health.

💊Celebrating National Pharmacy Technician Day: Honoring Angie and Lynn💊

Today we celebrate National Pharmacy Technician Day—a day to honor the
compassion, dedication, and skill that our pharmacy technicians bring to our team and
our community every single day. October 21, 2025, marks National Pharmacy
Technician Day—a day dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary contributions
pharmacy technicians make to patient care and the healthcare system. At My
Neighbor's Charitable Pharmacy, we are incredibly fortunate to have two outstanding
professionals who embody the dedication, compassion, and skill this day celebrates.
Pharmacy technicians are often called the "unsung heroes of healthcare", and for good
reasons. Pharmacy technicians like Angie and Lynn work tirelessly behind the scenes to
ensure our pharmacy runs smoothly and our patients receive exceptional care. They are
far more than "just techs"—they are skilled professionals who protect patients, support
pharmacists, and keep our entire system running efficiently.
Angie and Lynn handle countless critical responsibilities every single day: verifying
medication orders with precision, managing inventory, preparing prescriptions, entering
patient information, and providing compassionate customer service to our community
members. Their attention to detail helps prevent medication errors and ensure patient
safety—a responsibility that cannot be overstated

To Angie and Lynn: Thank you.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our mission. Thank you for your
compassion toward every patient. Thank you for your meticulous attention to detail that
keeps our community safe. Thank you for showing up every day with professionalism,
heart, and resilience.
Your work extends far beyond counting pills and processing prescriptions. You are
patient advocates, healthcare connectors, and vital members of our team. You make a
difference in people's lives- one prescription, one interaction, one act of kindness at a
time.
While we honor Angie and Lynn today, we also celebrate all pharmacy technicians who
dedicate themselves to this essential profession. The role of pharmacy technicians
continues to evolve and expand, and their contributions to medication safety, patient
care, and healthcare efficiency deserve recognition not just on October 21st, but every
single day.
To all pharmacy technicians: You are seen. You are valued. Your work matters more
than words can express.

😁Impact That Spans Decades😁
Sometimes a single photograph tells the most powerful story, and this image of Jim
Weisler (Class of '76), Henry Irvin (me) (Class of '06), and Kyle Ebmeyer (Class of
2026) from St. Louis College of Pharmacy captures exactly that - 50 years of pharmacy
evolution in one incredible moment.
Jim graduated when pharmacists were just beginning to step out from behind the
counter, helping lay the groundwork during pharmacy's most transformative decade as
he built his career from Walgreens counter to healthcare champion, while I earned my
degree when the profession was hitting its stride in patient care services and now I am
serving as Executive Director of My Neighbor's Charitable Pharmacy, recently honored
as "Pharmacist Making a Difference" by the Missouri Pharmacy Association. Kyle
represents the newest generation entering a profession where pharmacists are
recognized as essential public health leaders and health equity advocates, inheriting a
legacy built by pioneers.
What strikes me most isn't just the 50-year span, but the continuity of purpose that
connects Jim's pioneering spirit in the '70s to my community-focused leadership
spanning two decades to Kyle's emerging commitment to accessible healthcare - all
driven by the same fundamental mission of making healthcare accessible to those who
need it most.
My passion to help others is as strong as ever, and that passion flows seamlessly from
Jim to me to Kyle, proving that our profession's greatest strength isn't just our clinical
knowledge, but our unwavering commitment to serving others. To Jim, Kyle, and the
countless pharmacists they represent: thank you for creating a living legacy where
pharmacy's past, present, and future unite in purpose, showing that some things never
change - like the heart of a pharmacist dedicated to healing communities.
