Lynn’s Pharmacy is a modern pharmacy with old fashion values and personal service. We have an old fashion soda fountain, 1890s furniture, black & white checker tile floor, 1890’s tin ceiling, and drugs and herbs from 1890-1960’s. This is a “throw back” to my first experiences as a teenager in Easley’s pharmacy in Clay City.
We fill prescriptions, supply sleep apnea CPAP machines, fix an old fashion chocolate soda or make a cherry or lemon COKE, compound (mix) a child’s medication to an appropriate strength (not commercially available) in a specially flavored liquid, rent or sell wheelchairs and walkers and many other things that make us full service health care providers. We are nationally recognized experts in Diabetes Care, Cardiovascular Care, Arthritis Care, Asthma Care, Wound Care, and Ostomy Care.
My wife Donna and I purchased the National Drug Store in the fall of 1970. National Drug had been in the same location on the north side of National Avenue since the 1890-1900’s. It has had only about five or six owners since the turn of the last century. After we purchased the pharmacy, we placed an ad in the newspaper that we would be closed on Sunday to worship and spend time with our family. We would be available to fill emergency prescriptions on Sunday, late at night, and on holidays. Several ministers mentioned this to their congregations and suggested that people might want to help us succeed. We did not lose business but continued to prosper.
In 1974, the bank purchased the pharmacy’s building for expansion. At this time, we bought the old AP grocery building, remodeled, and moved into a new larger facility. After the old original section of Brazil was designated a National Historic Area, we remodeled the front of the drug store to an authentic 1890-1900 era approved by the National Park Service and Indiana Historic Preservation. We received several awards and plaques for aiding in the restoration of Brazil . Lynn’s pharmacy has been featured in several national pharmacy journals. We have hosted a radio show, Focus On Health, every week since July of 1996.. We usually have a medical person , doctor, or health care worker share about his or her work or special interest. We have learned a lot over the years!
