Vertin For over a century, Vertin associates have supported communities experiencing loss and helped families honor life stories.

We understand the selfless nature of this work, and we’re here to care for you along your journey. Although Vertin Company has grown in many ways, the tradition of providing professional, caring service to families in need, has always remained. Vertin Company is owned by Tom Vertin, a third generation funeral director whose grandfather, Joseph Vertin, Sr., founded Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Tom’s father, Joseph Vertin, Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps at the funeral home. Within his profession, Joe was always respected for his business and professional knowledge. Most important to Joe, however, were the families he served in the funeral home. Caring for families in their time of need brought great meaning and satisfaction to his life. Joe served five generations of families within the community and because of this history, he took great pride in the fact that his work in funeral service was being carried on by his children and grandchildren. In 1967, Tom joined his father in operating the funeral home in Breckenridge. Since that time, Vertin Company has acquired several funeral homes, and is now one of the largest privately-held, family-owned funeral home companies in the Midwest. Because Vertin Company is privately-held, we have longtime stability and financial security. We are not a public company, nor do we want to be. Because we are family-owned, we prefer to work like a family...everyone doing their part to provide excellent service to the families who have entrusted their loved one to us. We are committed to the communities that we serve, and believe that families can be better served through cooperation, not competition. Our hope is that our traditions and philosophies speak to our belief in the future of funeral service.

We’re growing!

Over the past year, our Vertin team in Edina has expanded, and our office space is growing with it. Over the last few weeks, we officially kicked off renovations to create more room for collaboration, new team members, and the work that supports our locations across all markets.

It’s not glamorous yet, but progress is happening. We can’t wait to show the finished space soon.

A small box. A big thank you.

Vertin recently sent appreciation boxes to every one of our funeral homes to celebrate the teams who care for families in some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Inside each box were locally inspired treats representing different parts of the country, along with a small message of gratitude for the people who show up for families every single day.

We are proud to support such an incredible group of people across the Vertin network.

At Vertin, we see firsthand the dedication our funeral directors bring to their work each day. Often working behind the scenes, they serve families with compassion, professionalism, and steady grace, ensuring that every detail is handled with care and dignity. Their commitment allows families the space to focus on one another during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Today, we recognize and honor the meaningful role they play in supporting both those who have passed and the loved ones who grieve them. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering service, their strength, and the comfort they provide to so many families. Thank you to our funeral directors across all of our locations for the work you do every day.

At Vertin, we believe care extends beyond the families we serve. It includes caring for one another, too.

This NFDA article highlights an important truth in funeral service: supporting others through grief requires empathy, presence, and the ability to care for yourself as well. When we prioritize well-being, we are better equipped to show up with compassion and intention.

Funeral service asks a lot of the heart. At Vertin, we support our teams so they can continue serving families and communities with dignity and respect.

Just as we benefit from having an active support system when we are grieving, so too do we want to support others in our life who are experiencing ber
