Vertin For over a century, Vertin associates have supported communities experiencing loss and helped families honor life stories.

We understand the selfless nature of this work, and we’re here to care for you along your journey. Although Vertin Company has grown in many ways, the tradition of providing professional, caring service to families in need, has always remained. Vertin Company is owned by Tom Vertin, a third generation funeral director whose grandfather, Joseph Vertin, Sr., founded Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home

in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Tom’s father, Joseph Vertin, Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps at the funeral home. Within his profession, Joe was always respected for his business and professional knowledge. Most important to Joe, however, were the families he served in the funeral home. Caring for families in their time of need brought great meaning and satisfaction to his life. Joe served five generations of families within the community and because of this history, he took great pride in the fact that his work in funeral service was being carried on by his children and grandchildren. In 1967, Tom joined his father in operating the funeral home in Breckenridge. Since that time, Vertin Company has acquired several funeral homes, and is now one of the largest privately-held, family-owned funeral home companies in the Midwest. Because Vertin Company is privately-held, we have longtime stability and financial security. We are not a public company, nor do we want to be. Because we are family-owned, we prefer to work like a family...everyone doing their part to provide excellent service to the families who have entrusted their loved one to us. We are committed to the communities that we serve, and believe that families can be better served through cooperation, not competition. Our hope is that our traditions and philosophies speak to our belief in the future of funeral service.

We had a great time at University of Wisconsin-Stout this week connecting with students at the Putt Putt event!

Our team represented the professionalism golf hole. Highlighting the importance of presence, attention to detail, and the role it plays in the work we do every day. It was a great opportunity to share more about our profession, answer questions, and connect with students exploring their future paths.

And of course, Blake Karels and Johanna had fun along the way!

Thank you UW-Stout Career Services for the invitation, and to everyone who stopped by. We always appreciate the chance to engage with the next generation of professionals and share more about funeral service.

“What I love most about working at Vertin is being able to work directly with families to help them create services that truly reflect their loved one—even when those choices might be a little unconventional.”

As the Office Manager at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN, Stacy Lindbom plays a key role in supporting both families and the funeral home team. Her day-to-day work includes creating custom folders and thank-you cards, editing tribute videos, filing death certificates, answering phones, greeting families, assisting during services, and stepping in wherever help is needed.

Having come to the funeral profession from a background in education, Stacy values the opportunity to guide families through meaningful ways to honor their loved ones. What she enjoys most about her role is helping families create services that feel personal and right for them.

Her advice for anyone joining Vertin is simple: make it a goal to learn at least one new thing every day. By observing experienced team members and taking advantage of training opportunities, new associates can continue growing in their roles.

At Vertin, team members like Stacy help ensure every family is supported with care, compassion, and attention to the details that matter most.

Grief does not stay confined to one setting. It shows up in schools, workplaces, and throughout our communities.

We recently read an article from the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley on how schools are approaching grief support and student wellness. It’s a thoughtful reminder that grief-informed practices matter far beyond a single moment.

Conversations like this help strengthen the way communities care for one another.

It’s not glamorous yet, but progress is happening. We can’t wait to show the finished space soon.
