🩷 With October being both Breast Cancer Awareness and Physical Month we'd like to highlight treatments available for lymphedema, a type of swelling that can occur following cancer treatment or mastectomy.

Our lymphedema physical therapist Becky Dockter can work with you in Complete Decongestive therapy to alleviate swelling and discomfort.

Components included:

- Compression (wraps or garments)

- Specialized manual lymph drainage massage

- Exercises to promote mobility

- Education on skin care and maintaining swelling reduction

👐Pediatric Occupational Therapy can help kids with fine motor delays or struggles. Pediatric occupational therapy will evaluate the child to look at handwriting and pencil grasp skills along with related skills such as hand eye coordination, finger coordination, upper extremity strength and coordination, motor planning skills and sensory processing skills. All of these areas may impact handwriting and fine motor skills in the school and home settings. Therapy can help determine which areas are impacting a child’s fine motor skills and work on these areas to improve handwriting and other school based fine motor skills. ✍️

Signs your child may be struggling with fine motor skills:

🚩Have difficulties with peg type toys

🚩Struggle with simple puzzles

🚩Difficulty holding or using scissors

🚩Difficulty tracing shapes/lines/letters

🚩Unable to cut out simple shapes or cut on the line

🚩Difficulty writing letters 

🚩Fatigue in hands with writing

🚩Slow writing impacting grades

OSPTI is offering free screenings that will look at age appropriate fine motor skills. The screen will include activities such as stacking blocks, completing puzzles, writing/drawing, cutting depending on the age of a child. If appropriate a full evaluation may be recommended to look more in depth at the causes of fine motor delays.

We are planning the parent child for 6:15pm and then a combination class of the other levels at 6:50 so no level 1 at 6:15 it will be at 6:50.
