Take a guess at how many muscles and joints make up our foot and ankle.....

Can you imagine there are 34 muscles, 33 joints, 28 bones that come together in this area? No wonder there are a lot of ways our feet can be injured, from ankle sprains, to plantar fascitis, to heel and achilles pain! OSPTI has expert therapists that can find a personalized solution for you with tailored exercise programs, manual therapy techniques, and modalities like dry needling and others to decrease pain and inflammation and improve your daily activities!

Holiday lifting – Real life strength

Alright everybody, the holidays are here—which means you might not be lifting dumbbells as much as you’re lifting turkeys, totes, and trees. And just like in the gym, proper form matters. Because nothing ruins a holiday faster than throwing out your back while wrestling a 22-pound bird.  So today, let’s talk about functional lifting—using safe squat technique while doing all that real-life holiday heavy work.

 🍗The Turkey Squat:
When you’re pulling that turkey out of the oven or fridge, don’t bend over like you’re bobbing for apples. Plant your feet shoulder-width, bend your knees, keep your chest up, and squat down to it. Keep the bird close to your body as you stand up—don’t let it get way out in front of you. That keeps the load on your legs, not your lower back.

🎄Lifting Christmas totes:
Remember when lifting those big storage totes full of ornaments and mystery items from 1998? They’re awkward, they’re heavy, and they always seem to be on the lowest shelf or the highest one.
- Set Your Feet
“Start with your feet about shoulder-width apart—comfortable, not forced. Toes slightly out. Think of your feet as your foundation; if they’re shaky, everything on top is too.”
- Brace Like You Mean It
“Before you move, tighten your core. Imagine someone’s about to poke you in the stomach. That bracing keeps your spine stable and your power going where it should.”
- Hips Back, Knees Out
“As you descend, push your hips back like you’re sitting into a chair. Keep your knees tracking over your toes—not collapsing inward. That’s a big one during heavier lifts.”
- Depth With Control
“Go as low as you comfortably can while keeping your chest up and your back neutral. Don’t chase depth at the expense of collapsing form.”
- Drive Through the Floor
“On the way up, push through your mid-foot and heels. Keep your core tight and come up strong—no folding, no wobbling.”

🏋‍Decorating High Spots:
If you’re reaching up to hang lights or put the star on the tree, don’t overextend. Step closer or use a stable stool—no tiptoe hero moves. Overreaching is how holiday legends become holiday injuries.
