Large servings of nonpreferred foods can easily overwhelm a picky eater!

Offer your kiddo a small serving of a nonpreferred food along with a normal serving of 2-3 preferred foods at every meal or snack.

I highly recommend the learning plate for picky eaters during all meals! It allows them to explore new or nonpreferred foods in a less demanding way.

🌟 Fun tip - Encourage your child to roll, spin, push, or blow the nonpreferred food onto their learning plate. This allows them to further interact with the food in a fun way!

This has been a big topic with my feeding clients lately! We are focusing on changing the sensory property of highly preferred foods during mealtime at home.

🍎 My general recommendation is to make small and gradual changes to the sensory property of preferred foods.

🍏 Seek a trained feeding therapist if your little one eats less than 20 foods and/or food jags!

Going back to school after the holidays can be tricky sometimes. Here are three tips to ease the transition!

1. Provide reminders or countdowns! I prefer visual reminders - calendars, countdown chains, or sticky notes representing each day before school.

2. Get your child involved in the prep work! Let them choose their outfit, shoes, snack, lunch, the song they want to listen to on the way to school, the book they want to read the night before, etc. We want them to feel included and in control of the situation!

3. Have your child share three things they are looking forward to at school! It can be anything - seeing their friends, playing blocks, reading a book, or sharing what they did over the break. And you do the SAME! Maybe you're excited to hear about their day, make them a special lunch, or say hi to their teacher.

I hope this helps! :)
