Who knew acorns could be so smart? ๐Ÿฟ๏ธโœจ

Inside each tiny acorn is a surprise object that matches the letter on the outsideโ€”perfect for practicing letter recognition, beginning sounds, and fine motor strength!

Activities like this keep sessions hands-on, playful, and meaningful as our clients build confidence one little acorn at a time. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ“š

We had the best day at the with Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee. This is one of our favorite events each year and we were thrilled to see so many clients and friends stop by the booth. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Even more special this year, we were showing off the new drums Vanderbilt University Hands-On Play Lab gave us to use in our joint research study. If you know someone between the ages of 7-12 with Down syndrome, please reach out to get registered for this exciting study which includes free drum lessons with us in Hendersonville or Brentwood!

The weather may be unpredictable, but her progress isnโ€™t! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿงฅ

Meet one of our amazing scholarship recipients! ๐ŸŒŸ
In this session, sheโ€™s working on an important daily living skill, choosing the right clothing for the weather. As the seasons shift between warm and chilly days, sheโ€™s learning to recognize when itโ€™s time for short sleeves or a cozy jacket!

Weโ€™re so proud of her progress and grateful to provide these opportunities through our scholarship program and music therapy services. ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’™ Continuing our Down Syndrome Awareness Month Celebration! ๐Ÿ’™

This week, weโ€™re shining a spotlight on our amazing Embrace group โ€” a community program that we provide services for, which is full of music, laughter, and connection! ๐ŸŽถโœจ

Each week in music therapy, these incredible individuals come together to build confidence and connection through rhythm, song, and movement. While the sessions are full of smiles and dancing, theyโ€™re also hard at work practicing important social and communication skills, including:

๐Ÿค Teamwork
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Expressing ideas through music and conversation
๐ŸŽต Listening and responding to others
๐Ÿ’ƒ Coordinating movement in group activities

Weโ€™re incredibly proud of the joy and community this group brings each week to Embrace!

๐ŸŽƒ Halloween Intervention Spotlight! ๐ŸŽƒ

This weekโ€™s fall-themed Social Saturdays session takes us on a musical hayride! ๐Ÿ‚

Our teen and young adult social group joined together using a stretchy band to โ€œrideโ€ through the song, imagining all the sights they see along the way! ๐Ÿšœ๐ŸŽถ Using visual supports, each participant shared what they spotted on the hayride!

During this session, group members are:

๐Ÿค Building social connection โ€“ sharing ideas and listening to each other
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Practicing communication skills โ€“ responding to questions and making choices with visual supports
๐Ÿง  Strengthening memory and attention โ€“ recalling what peers shared
๐ŸŽต Engaging in group music-making โ€“ moving and singing together in rhythm
๐Ÿ˜Š Fostering inclusion and teamwork โ€“ supporting one another through shared play

We love seeing how music therapy helps our clients connect, communicate, and celebrate the season together! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽƒ

Weโ€™re continuing our Down Syndrome Awareness Month celebration by spotlighting another amazing client and her incredible progress in therapy! ๐Ÿ’™

Our friend is hard at work popping bubbles โ€” but thereโ€™s a lot more happening than meets the eye! ๐ŸŽˆโœจ

She is working on:
๐Ÿซฐ Pincer grasp & fine motor control
๐Ÿ‘€ Eye tracking & visual attention
๐Ÿค Hand-over-hand support with Mom
๐ŸŽถ Coordinated movement through music

By using castanets to pop the bubbles, sheโ€™s practicing precise finger movements while also strengthening her ability to follow fast-moving objects, all with the encouragement and guidance of her biggest cheerleader, her mom. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’•

Itโ€™s joyful, skill-building play at its best, and weโ€™re so proud of the progress sheโ€™s making each week. Stay tuned for more moments of growth and celebration next Monday!

There's nothing better than connecting with the community! ๐Ÿ˜Š We had a fantastic time at the Fall Festival on Thursday. It was so rewarding to see all the kids enjoying the instrument petting zoo and making some music! We always look forward to events like thisโ€”it's the perfect chance to meet new families and strengthen our ties with existing friends and community providers.

๐ŸŽƒ Halloween Intervention Spotlight! ๐ŸŽƒ
This weekโ€™s spooky session features the classic song โ€œThem Dry Bonesโ€ with a fun, adaptive twist! ๐Ÿฆด๐ŸŽถ

One of our adult clients is working on body part identification while engaging in a creative, music-based intervention that supports communication, motor skills, and self-expression.

During this session, the client is:
๐Ÿง  Identifying body parts โ€“ pointing as the song lyrics cue each one
๐Ÿ‘‚ Following auditory cues โ€“ engaging with musical and spoken directions
๐Ÿ“ฑ Using AAC โ€“ supporting communication with his device
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Requesting โ€œmoreโ€ โ€“ verbally expressing his desire to continue
๐ŸŽค Taking ownership โ€“ playing guitar during the chorus
๐Ÿ’ช Building motor coordination โ€“ moving along with each part of the song

We love seeing how music can spark joy, creativity, and progress in such a personalized way! Stay tuned for more Halloween fun all October! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ
