Evelyn’s Triumph over Parkinson’s
This is about Evelyn Baker, a 70 year old resident of Pensacola, Florida. When I first met her about one year ago, she was struggling with full blown Parkinson’s disease. The symptoms include tremors, shaking, and jerking motions. About nine months ago, I asked her if she would be willing to try a new therapy to help her with her Parkinson’s. She said yes.
I explained to Evelyn that the therapy is designed to generate new neurons (brain cells) to replace those that have been destroyed by the Parkinson’s. The therapy involved listening to a 15 minute CD. At first she had trouble operating the CD player because of the Parkinson’s symptoms. After several attempts, we finally succeeded in her being able to operate the CD player.
This took place about two weeks after I had seen her at a birthday party, during which her symptoms were very pronounced. A little over a week after I had seen her at the birthday party, I saw her in the parking lot. This was November 16, 2010. I couldn’t help but notice that she was not trembling, shaking, or jerking. I was really amazed, almost to the point of disbelief. I asked her if she was still listening to the CD. She said she fell asleep while listening to it the night before.
After we finished our conversation, she proceeded to walk around the apartment building, something I had never seen her do before. On Wednesday, December 1, 2010 I saw Evelyn walking around the building at 8 a.m. The temperature was 37 degrees. She was showing no signs of the Parkinson’s.
I saw Evelyn in the hallway Thursday night, December 2, 2010. She was returning from the laundry room. She said she was now walking around the building 3 times. She wants to get up to four times. It takes me about 4 ½ minutes to walk around it once.
On Friday, December 17, 2010 I saw her standing in the lobby doorway. She said she was waiting for someone to come and pick her up. A woman arrived about 5 minutes later. Evelyn said good night and walked out and got in the car, showing no signs of shaking, trembling or jerking.
I saw her Thursday morning, January 13, 2011. She had just shampooed her hair, which was still damp. She was very cheerful. She said she had just sold her car this week via Craig’s List. Evelyn is still free of any visible signs of Parkinson’s disease.
On Friday, January 21, 2011 at 12:15 pm, I saw Evelyn in the parking lot. She was taking some trash to the dumpster. Most residents use the inside trash disposal in the hallway.
I asked her if she misses her car. She said no. She’s glad she sold it. After she began to feel better, she was tempted to drive it. She was ordered by her doctor and the DMV to stop driving because of the Parkinson’s. This happened about three weeks before she began to recover from it. Today she was displaying no visible Parkinson’s symptoms.
Saturday, February 25, 2012: Birthday party for one of our neighbors, Pat Martin. Evelyn took several pictures with her camera. Her hands were very steady. She had no problems at all, contrary to another birthday party a year ago. At that party Evelyn was suffering with full blown Parkinson’s. She could not hold her hand steady enough to focus the camera.
Sincerely,
Lon Anderson
