Thank you to Knox Regional Health Science Center for welcoming us! This state-of-the-art facility is home to Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Knoxville and Roane State Community College health sciences programs. Our Community Engagement Manager, Sarah Kane, joined David Blevins, Roane State Program Director of EMS Education, and Haley McCulloch, TCAT Knoxville Academic and Student Support Associate, for a tour of the center. We’re excited to return next year for TCWD's East Tennessee Discovery Summit and continue building this great partnership.

We recently teamed up with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center to host a Health Sciences Simulation Day, welcoming 50 high school students from around the region for a day of hands-on healthcare experiences.

Students rotated through interactive stations where they practiced real-world skills like ultrasound and blood pressure measurement, airway management and intubation, CPR, taking vitals, and more. From learning life-saving techniques to trying out new equipment, the energy and curiosity in the room were outstanding. We're inspired by the enthusiasm these students have for a future career in healthcare.

Thank you to everyone at UTHSC who helped make the day such a success!

It was such a pleasure to tour Church Health and meet their fantastic staff. During our visit, we congratulated the team for being named a recipient of our new Volunteer Incentive Program, which recognizes facilities that treat volunteers as an integral part of their operations and reported more than 500 volunteer hours in 2025. We learned more about their volunteer initiatives, including the Church Health Youth Service Council, volunteer opportunities ranging from medical to nonmedical roles, and internship experiences across various service areas.

We also had the opportunity to reconnect with medical directors Joel Finley and Melissa Barnhart—both former TCWD Residency Incentive recipients who completed their service commitment at Church Health. Their continued dedication to serving underserved populations is so valuable.

Finally, we enjoyed meeting three of our Healthy Smiles Program recipients and learning about their experience providing dental care.

Church Health is doing incredible work for Memphis’ underserved community and we are so grateful for our continued relationship.

We had an impactful week in Memphis! Our Community Engagement Manager, Sarah Kane, spent time cultivating meaningful partnerships and introducing students to healthcare career pathways!

🩺We kicked off with a tour of the University of Memphis College of Health Sciences — a future host site for TCWD’s Discovery Summit — and had the opportunity to learn about their expansive offerings of healthcare degrees and programs. We were grateful for the warm welcome from Richard J. Bloomer, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and Dr. Shirley R. Brown, Clinical Associate Professor of the Healthcare Leadership Online Program, and MC Mullins, Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications.

✏️ We also attended our first Memphis-Area Home Education Association Expo, where we connected with homeschool students and families to share information about pathways to healthcare careers.

🔬We wrapped up the week at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, meeting with leadership, including Dr. Tara Lemoine, Medical/Executive Director of the Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation (CHIPS - Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation), and Aaron Haynes, Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education and TCWD Board Member. We were especially excited to tour the simulation lab ahead of the Simulation Day we’re hosting in partnership with UTHSC next month!

We are grateful to collaborate with educational institutions that share our commitment to strengthening the future of healthcare.
