✨Major update in women’s health✨
The has announced plans to remove the black box safety warnings from estrogen-containing hormone therapy products used for menopause symptom relief — a huge step forward in menopause care.
For years, patients were warned to approach hormone therapy with extreme caution, leaving many to suffer through symptoms unnecessarily. The black box warning fueled the long-held belief that estrogen therapy significantly increases risks of breast cancer, heart disease, and dementia.
Now, after a thorough review of current data, the FDA is moving to eliminate references to those risks — cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and probable dementia — from estrogen-containing hormone therapy labels.
The warning for endometrial cancer will stay on products containing systemic estrogen alone.
This shift aligns with what many menopause specialists have known for years: when prescribed appropriately, hormone therapy can be both safe and effective. That said, it’s still not the right option for everyone.
What this means for you:
* More confidence in your choices: Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal or urinary discomfort, and sleep troubles don’t have to be something you just “live with.”
* Personalized care matters: Your age, medical and family history, symptom severity, previous hormone use, and time since menopause all help determine if hormone therapy fits your needs.
Emerging research even suggests current prescribing practices may be too conservative. At the 2025 Annual Meeting of The Menopause Society, one study reported that women who began estrogen therapy more than 10 years before menopause had about a 60% lower risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and stroke.
