Plot twist: it’s not just a coffee… it’s an occupation ☕️✨

Occupations aren’t just jobs, they’re the everyday activities that give our lives meaning and structure. From making your morning coffee, to texting a friend, to getting ready for work, to winding down at night… it all counts.

Occupational therapy looks at the whole picture, the routines, habits, roles, and little moments that shape who you are and how you function each day. Because sometimes, something as simple as a cup of coffee is actually about independence, routine, identity, and connection.

Meet Han Isenman!

Han is a St. Louis native and WashU OT grad who works with youth and adults experiencing homelessness and in transitional housing. They are also a Certified Sexuality Occupational Therapist (CSOT), with specialized training to support clients in navigating sexuality and relationships as part of everyday life.

Behind every session, Han’s work centers on helping clients rebuild routines, find stability, and reconnect with a sense of purpose through meaningful daily occupations.

“I chose OT because it connects mental health to the things we do or don’t do in daily life, showing how routines and activities reflect our well-being. I love helping people rebuild or adapt their routines so they can find purpose and stability again. Seeing small changes in daily occupations lead to big improvements in overall health is what makes OT so meaningful to me.

“OT has provided support in a new way that really connects with our clients and empowers them to figure out what works for their needs.”

The most effective support meets people where they are.

Occupational therapy focuses on what matters in daily life, helping people build strategies that actually work for them.

Because the best solutions aren’t one-size-fits-all.

Therapy doesn’t always happen in an office.

At QTS, community-based mental health occupational therapy means meeting people where life actually happens, in grocery stores, kitchens, neighborhoods, and everyday routines. By working in real environments, our OTPs help people build practical skills, navigate barriers, and strengthen the routines that support their health and wellbeing.

Because meaningful change happens in the moments that make up everyday life.

What if the barrier is actually a breakthrough waiting to happen?

Nonprofits face real constraints including capacity, training, and funding. Not because of a lack of commitment, but because delivering high-quality, sustainable services is complex.

At QTS, we help shift those barriers.

We expand capacity with specialized, community-based mental health occupational therapy, without adding internal strain.
We equip entire teams through practical, trauma-informed training.
And we integrate outcome tracking that provides clear, credible data to support future funding.

When capacity grows, teams are equipped, and impact is measurable, breakthroughs follow.

“Occupational therapy has helped me learn how to manage daily life with the many hats I wear. I have become more confident in my capabilities as an individual.”

Client voices like this reflect what occupational therapy is all about.

Wearing multiple hats shouldn’t mean carrying it all alone. OT supports the skills, systems, and strategies that make everyday roles more manageable and meaningful.

Confidence doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from knowing you can.

Meet Elle Martirez!

Elle is a St. Louis native and Saint Louis University OT grad who now serves clients in shelters, transitional housing, and recuperative care. Behind every session, Elle’s work centers on supporting recovery, fostering independence, and promoting meaningful daily engagement.

“My favorite thing about being an OT is seeing my client’s progress in both their personal and OT goals! It is so rewarding to celebrate their growth! I am very lucky to be able to learn and grow right beside them!”

Help Us Keep St. Louis Warm This Winter!

The city of St. Louis is set to have a challenging winter. Due to the tornadoes experienced earlier this year, we are expecting more people than ever to need shelter during the coldest months.

Here at QTS, we want to support our community and help in any way we can. This year, we have decided to host a winter supply drive. The donations we collect will be given to the St. Louis Winter Planning Committee, which is a collective of multiple organizations coming together to make a coordinated effort to keep those experiencing homelessness safe.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference and show that our community cares - because no one should have to face the cold alone.

We have put together a wishlist of the most needed items. If you are interested in helping, any and all donations from our wishlist are greatly appreciated.

We will be delivering the donations in the first week of November.

Thank you!
