Last week, a few members of our incredible team---Erin, RN; Lauren, RN; Wendy, CNA; and one of our clinical managers, Amanda---took time out of their day to share something truly special with a couple of our patients and their friends. 💛

At one of the local facilities we partner with, a beloved patient finds so much joy in watching the birds. With spring just around the corner, our team was inspired to make that experience even more meaningful. They spent time together installing four new bird feeders for residents to enjoy, bringing a little extra beauty and happiness to their days.

Moments like these are a reflection of who we are at Gentiva Hospice. Giving back, creating joy, and caring deeply for those we serve is at the heart of everything we do. 🍃

Meet Sara Trafton

Sara is a dedicated and dynamic professional with experience in nonprofit leadership, program management, and volunteer coordination. She is passionate about end-of-life care and committed to supporting individuals and families during meaningful moments. Sara is excited to step into her new role leading hospice volunteers for Gentiva, where she looks forward to working with the team to make a lasting impact through compassionate service and community engagement.

Sara was born in Boothbay Harbor and takes pride in her heritage as a 10+ generation Mainer with roots back to the earliest settlers of Maine and New England. When not at work, Sara enjoys spending time with her 3 beautiful granddaughters and exploring the state- from the islands to the highlands, the gold coast to the North Woods.

Sara is looking forward to building a robust volunteer group to help provide the companionship and visitation so many of our hospice patients need.

It's Feedback Friday time! Over the past week, Gentiva Hospice celebrated its spring Customer Appreciation Week! During the week, our team had some great conversations with our patients and families on what "Gift" hospice care has provided them. Here are some direct quotes:

"Even though I'm on hospice, you guys haven't taken my independence away, you let me do things at my own pace, without giving up and just doing it yourself".

"You can go to school to learn about being a CNA, work the floor to get a sense of the CNA life, but you can't teach compassion and empathy...that's what Amber brings to our family".

"I couldn't have done it without you guys. And I'm just so thankful for everything you did for him. You guys got everything done so quickly for him to be comfortable".

"Hospice has been a big help. Gentiva staff are caring and friendly. The staff has all the answers. Ms. Amber and Ms. Lauren are such sweet souls. I can't do this without them".

We are grateful every day to walk alongside our patients and families. Bringing a smile to their face, offering a listening ear or a shoulder to cry, finding resources to offload the heavy stuff, and ensuring comfort, dignity, and respect are there till the very end!

Today, we wanted to share a few heartfelt comments from families who took the time to complete the survey they received after the passing of their loved one.

Some of our patients are with us for only hours or days, while others allow us the privilege of walking alongside them for 6–12 months. No matter how long the journey, every patient and family deserves the same compassion, dignity, and support.

At Gentiva Hospice, it is our honor to care for families during such meaningful moments, and we are deeply grateful for the trust they place in us.

A group of our Gentiva Brewer team (Amanda (PCM), Melanie (HCC), Sarah (RN), her amazing daughter, Ariel, and Nicholes (CNA) ) cooked dinner at Sarah's House of Maine last week. A small way we can give back to the community we serve. If you are not familiar with Sarah's House it is a non-profit organization in Holden, Maine, that provides free, temporary lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers who travel for treatment in the Bangor area.
