The hospital is an acute care hospital and has been a part of the Brewton, Alabama community for over sixty years. D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital (DWMMH) is proud to welcome Dr. Lisa King to our dedicated team of healthcare providers. Dr. King is an accomplished Family Practice Physician with more than 25 years of experience in providing comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages. She brings extensive expertise in preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and patient-centered care.

Throughout her career, Dr. King has been recognized for her commitment to fostering strong, trusting relationships with patients and for delivering the highest quality of medical care.

Dr. King earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama, received her Doctor of Medicine from Meharry Medical College, and completed her Family Practice Residency at Wright State University. She has extensive experience in clinic and hospital settings in Alabama, Florida and Kentucky.

When asked about joining the D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital Medical Staff, Dr. King shared, “I am excited to join the Brewton community of exceptional medical professionals. I look forward to developing relationships and providing compassionate, comprehensive care to families in the area.”

Stacy Hines, Administrator, welcomed Dr. King to the medical staff, stating “We are pleased to have Dr. King join D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital. Her extensive experience and genuine dedication to patient care align perfectly with our mission to provide exceptional healthcare close to home. We look forward to the positive impact she will make in the lives of our patients and their families.”

How you can help AND benefit by helping!

Through the Rural Hospital Investment Program, you can make a contribution that directly supports healthcare in our community—and get a dollar-for-dollar credit on your Alabama state taxes.

This program allows taxpayers to donate directly to eligible rural hospitals and receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit. This credit can be applied not only against income taxes but also insurance premium taxes, utility taxes, and excise taxes, providing flexibility for both individuals and businesses.

These funds will help support hospitals maintain the critical services that keep our community healthy. Starting January 1, 2026, the program will allow up to $20 million in total tax-credit-eligible donations across the state for the year.

D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital (DWM) announced today the planned retirement of Tommy Shehan, Director of Materials Management for the Escambia County Healthcare Authority (ECHCA), effective October 31, 2025.

Shehan joined DWM in 2020 as Director of Materials Management, following eight years as Administrator of the Brewton Medical Center. In his current role with ECHCA, Shehan oversees supply chain operations for both D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital and Atmore Community Hospital, ensuring the efficient management of vital medical resources across the healthcare system.

“We are very thankful for the role Tommy has played in advancing our mission and supporting our team,” said Wes Nall, Chief Financial Officer of ECHCA. “We wish him the very best in his retirement as he enjoys more time with his wife and grandchildren on their family farm.”

DWM also announced that Ken Kennedy has been selected to succeed Shehan as Supply Chain Manager for DWM. Kennedy brings 27 years of experience to the position, having served as DWM’s Purchasing Coordinator since 1998.

“Ken has a tremendous amount of experience and a broad knowledge of the medical supply chain,” said Shehan. “His initiative and ability to solve problems make him a valuable asset to the D.W. McMillan team.”

DWM Administrator Stacy Hines also expressed confidence in Kennedy’s leadership, adding “Ken has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of our supply chain operations and a strong commitment to excellence.”

When asked what he enjoys most about his work, Kennedy shared that he finds it rewarding to know his role supports hospital staff in providing the highest quality care to patients.

A graduate of W.S. Neal High School (Class of 1998), Kennedy lives in East Brewton with his wife, Kristin. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, hunting, and fishing.
