As temperatures drop and winter weather sets in, staying safe and warm is more important than ever. Here are 8 helpful health and safety reminders to keep you, your family, and your community protected this season:

- Dress in dry, layered clothing
- Keep meters & vents clear of snow and ice
- Push snow rather than lifting heavy piles
- Clear sidewalks & fire hydrants
- Never heat your home using a gas stove
- Light the match FIRST if your range has no pilot
- Take precautions to avoid frozen pipes
- Keep your thermostat above 55° to prevent freezing

Together, we’ve continued to create homes filled with care, compassion, and belonging for individuals who are blind, visually impaired, and living with multiple disabilities.

Our mission is more than providing housing , it's about helping individuals who are blind/visually impaired with developmental disabilities thrive within their communities, build friendships, grow life skills, and experience independence.

One recent resident, Gary, moved into our group home in Brick after 35 years at home with his mother. With the support of AMIB staff, Gary is now navigating his home confidently, advocating for himself, and even doing his own shopping and telling his mom, “I’ll ask staff to take me to the store tomorrow to buy some with my own money.” https://www.amib.net/support-amib/

Gary “loves his new lifestyle,” and his mom Cheryl feels peace knowing he is happy, supported, and thriving.

As temperatures drop, it’s important to dress smart for cold weather! Layering is key! Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add warm insulation like fleece or wool, and top it off with a waterproof or wind-resistant jacket. Don’t forget a hat, gloves, and sturdy shoes with good traction to prevent slips.

At AMIB, we remind our residents and staff that staying warm and dry helps keep everyone healthy, safe, and comfortable all winter long.

Our North Dover Cookie Swap Parties were a HUGE success!
Residents and staff came together to share holiday treats, smiles, and plenty of festive cheer.

We loved seeing everyone bake, decorate, and enjoy the celebration — and the pictures of the prep absolutely warmed our hearts!

Thank you to all who participated and helped make this tradition meaningful and memorable.

We’re already excited for next year’s cookie swap!
