CHANGE MINDS, CHANGE LIVES
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and a time to celebrate changed minds and changed lives.
For over 38 years, Bridge House has been providing a safe place where people with serious mental illness (SMI) can feel accepted and learn to overcome their challenges. When they come to BH, they become members of a caring community. They feel understood, connected, self-confident, and empowered - giving them the ability to work, go to school, and live independently.
In 2006, Daniel Hampton completed his bachelor’s degree, and instead of feeling excited, he felt isolated and alone. Living off social security disability, he was introduced to Bridge House and became a member. As a BH member, Daniel found “inner peace”, and an acceptance for who he is. What followed was a mind change from “I can’t” to “I can”. He went back to school for his master’s degree and now works full-time at Macy’s and has a seasonal part-time job at H&R Block. He no longer feels alone, lives independently with no social security disability, and can proudly say he is a contributing citizen reintegrating into society.
INVEST in Bridge House, and change lives for people living with SMI.
