Colorblends House & Spring Garden

Colorblends House & Spring Garden COLORBLENDS collaborated with designer Jacqueline van der Kloet of the Netherlands to create a spring display garden showing what's possible with flowerbulbs.

The House and Spring Garden are open every spring for six weeks from April 1 to around May 8th. The Colorblends House & Spring Garden is open to the public from March 29 to May 11, 2025. The Spring Garden is open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk. The House is open Tuesday thru Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Please follow us here for up-to-date flowering reports. The Garden
The spring garden is located on th

e south side of the house and occupies about half an acre. More than 50,000 flowerbulbs have been planted since fall 2014. These plantings, the handiwork of Dutch designer Jacqueline van der Kloet in collaboration with COLORBLENDS, are designed to show what is possible with spring flowering bulbs. The gardens also serve as a U.S. trialing ground for new varieties and blends for Colorblends. Whether you want to brighten your front walk, backyard or vegetable garden, the COLORBLENDS spring garden will show you how to create a great spring display. In spring the garden is a living catalog/website of Colorblends offerings. The plantings exhibit a range of choices in spring-flowering bulbs and give ideas on where to plant them and how to maintain a bulb display year after year. The garden also shows how you can attract birds, bees and other wildlife to your yard. Aging trees, which provide habitat and food for many birds and small animals, have been spared. Fruit trees have been planted. An innovative compost pile screens the vegetable garden and provides a haven for birds and insects. Admission to the garden is free. The House
COLORBLENDS purchased the house, a fine example of Colonial Revival architecture, from Nationstar Mortgage LLC and Fannie Mae in a short sale on December 4, 2013, five years after it was put on the market. The house was built in 1903 for Albert S. Wells, general superintendent of the Bridgeport Malleable Iron Company. It is set among other beautiful houses in the Stratfield historic district in Bridgeport. The long road to restoration. COLORBLENDS has brought the house back to its former glory. Initial steps included opening up three porches that were enclosed over the years and clearing out the basement, which had been divided into nine small rooms during a period when the house was used for private tutoring. Other previous uses of the house were as offices for an architect and before that a doctor who also lived there with his family. Fortunately, many original elements, such as the woodwork on the stairs and several stained glass windows, have been spared over the years. Replacing them would have been prohibitively expensive, if not impossible. During the spring while the garden is open the House will also be open with a pop-up gallery featuring an exhibition name La Belle Époque. There is a $5 suggested donation for the House. We look forward to seeing you this spring.

The spring display keeps on changing. Our 200-bulb tulip beds are in full bloom, snowflakes are looking gorgeous, and you'll still find some beautiful (and fragrant!) daffodil varieties, including the much-loved Daffodil Sir Winston Churchill. But the season is definitely starting to wind down, so if you haven't made it to the house yet (or if you haven't been in a week or more), plan your visit now.

As a reminder, the House/Gallery will be open Tuesday through Sunday, 10am to 4pm to view the art exhibits, through May 10, 2026.

The grounds are open 7 days/week, from sunrise to sunset. It is free to visit and take photos. Please tag us if you post on social media. Colorblends House & Spring Garden and Colorblends Wholesale Flowerbulbs

📸 April 20
We had some near-freezing temperatures on Sunday night, but not to fear—spring-flowering bulbs are highly resilient to cold. It's the heat we worry about more.

That said, many daffodils are done flowering, and some of our tulips that get more sun and warmth during the day are past peak. We probably have at least a week (maybe even longer) of most of our tulips, however, and many of our other bulbs, like Snake's Head, Snowdrops, Grape Hyacinth, and more, are looking quite lovely in the gardens right now. Check out the bed to the left of the side door for a nice display of Aladdin’s Carpet™, and look in the bed to the left of the Tulip Garage for a beautiful mix of bulbs that includes a variety of daffodils The Top 40™ Blend, Rigas Barikades Tulips, Snake's Head, and Glory of the Snow.

Today at the Colorblends House: Chilly and windy, but the sun is shining! Lots of daffodils coming into bloom. If you are trying to plan a few visits to see the gardens, we are expecting peak bloom for daffodils to be mid-month and tulips will likely be toward the end of April. This is always weather-dependent, so we will continue to post regular updates here so you can see what's happening in real time.

If you need some sunshine visit the daffodils. Yes, open today 10-4. The house will be warm and dry.

About the House & Garden

The Colorblends House & Spring Garden will be open April 1- May 12, 2020. The spring garden is located on the south side of the house and occupies about half an acre. More than 40,000 flowerbulbs have been planted since fall 2014. These plantings, the handiwork of Dutch designer Jacqueline van der Kloet in collaboration with COLORBLENDS wholesale flowerbulbs, are designed to show what is possible with bulbs. Whether you want to brighten your front walk, backyard or vegetable garden, whether you want to plant 200 bulbs or 2000, the COLORBLENDS spring garden will show you how to create a great spring display. A new fruit tree has been planted. An innovative compost pile screens the vegetable garden and provides a haven for birds and insects. The House COLORBLENDS purchased the house, a fine example of Colonial Revival architecture, from Nationstar Mortgage LLC and Fannie Mae in a short sale on December 4, 2013, five years after it was put on the market. The house was built in 1903 for Albert S. Wells, general superintendent of the Bridgeport Malleable Iron Company. It is set among other beautiful houses in the Stratfield historic district in Bridgeport. The long road to restoration has brought the house back to its former glory. Fortunately, many original elements, such as the woodwork on the stairs and several stained glass windows, have been spared over the years. Replacing them would have been prohibitively expensive, if not impossible. The goal is slow, steady progress towards restoration. During the spring while the garden is open the House will also be open with a pop-up gallery featuring the work of 9 to 10 local artists. The House is open everyday from 10am to 4pm from April 1st to May 12th. We look forward to seeing you next spring.
