Yesterday, we welcomed two special guests to our stations for a tour! Maggie, best friend to EMT John Lucas, visited to explore our stations and assess her comfort level joining John during shifts. She took all the new sights and sounds in stride, including the dispatch tones and klaxon!
Before she found her forever home with John, Maggie trained and boarded with Paw & Order Dog Training - Pittsburgh. True to their commitment to lifetime support, Paw & Order Trainer Jamie Pawlowski paid a visit to evaluate our station environments, identify any safety considerations, and help acclimate Maggie to the demands of an EMS station setting. Maggie is one lucky girl to have so many friends fur-ever supporting her!

Anyone know if it's supposed to snow this weekend? ๐Ÿคจ

Kidding aside, taking a few steps now can help keep you, your family, and our community safe.

Prepare ahead of time:
โ„๏ธ Stock essentials: medications, food, water, batteries, flashlights.
โ„๏ธ Charge phones and critical medical devices.
โ„๏ธ Have a plan for heat and possible power outages.

Oxygen-dependent individuals:
โš ๏ธ Ensure you have non-electricity-dependent oxygen options: (portable tanks, adequate backup supply).
โš ๏ธ Confirm oxygen deliveries and backup plans before the storm.
โš ๏ธ In past storms, power outages and oxygen equipment failures have led to stress on already strained emergency services and vulnerable patient populations.
โš ๏ธ If you are having an emergency, don't hesitate to call 9-1-1!

Help keep emergency crews available for true emergencies:
๐Ÿš‘ When residents prepare, EMS and fire crews can focus on life-threatening calls rather than preventable issues like oxygen concentrator outages or stranded motorists.
๐Ÿš‘ Snow and ice significantly increase response and transport times, even for critical calls.

Once conditions worsen, stay off the roads:
๐Ÿšจ Snow and ice covered roads put drivers and responders at risk.
๐Ÿšจ Snow removal and de-icing operations are faster and more efficient on empty roadways.
๐Ÿšจ Staying home helps reduce crashes and keeps emergency resources available.

Your preparation truly makes a difference. Please plan ahead, check on neighbors and loved ones who may need extra help, and stay safe during the storm.

WE DID IT! We're proud to share that our swiftwater rescue team is officially state certified through Pennsylvania's Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition (VRSR) program!

This honor represents countless hours of training, hard work, and dedication. It also represents the standard we have and will continue to hold ourselves to.

Congratulations to our team on this absolutely amazing achievement! ๐ŸŽ‰
