Here are five benefits to compression techniques 👇
1️⃣. Feels good AF - there's nothing more satisfying than having the entirety of your muscle discomfort addressed.
2️⃣. Increases blood circulation - there is a tremendous amount of blood flow that releases after an area is compressed. Where there is blood there is healing.
3️⃣. Includes broad tissue coverage - thumbs & elbows can be painful and they just don't always cover the tissue enough to release it.
4️⃣. Releases waste - metabolic waste goes with the flow of blood.
!5️⃣! Hears holding patterns - this is the biggie for me. When I use compression, especially on glutes and hamstrings, I can feel where the muscles are holding. Often times, muscles do not want to release until an equal amount of pressure matches their tension to communicate "I am here, you are safe to let go." One by one, I feel the muscles release & relax like light switches.
I do not love traditional swedish massage, but I do love trigger point, Thai & Chinese influenced techniques as well as athletic recovery work.
