Cold temps = real-world training ❄️🚒

The Brigantine Fire & EMS Department took advantage of the frozen bays to conduct ice rescue training. Members practiced self-rescue techniques, victim removal, and working as a team in challenging winter conditions. Training like this helps ensure we’re prepared to respond quickly and safely when seconds matter. Stay safe out there!

🚒 Fire Hydrant Safety Reminder ❄️

It has come to the attention of the Fire & EMS Department that fire hydrants are being covered by snow and ice during snow removal—most commonly at commercial properties.

Please do not pile snow on or around fire hydrants. These hydrants are critical for firefighters to quickly access water during an emergency. Snow-covered fire hydrants endanger the entire neighborhood by delaying fire suppression and increasing the risk to lives and property.

Per national firefighting regulations, clearing fire hydrants during snow removal is the responsibility of both the contractor and the property owner and burying a hydrant could create liabilities and responsibilities for hydrant repairs and avoidable injuries. Please do your part and protect your neighbors!

Our Fire & EMS Department already operates with limited manpower. Buried fire hydrants place an unnecessary physical burden on firefighters and slow emergency operations when seconds matter.

✅ Please keep at least 3 feet of clearance around all fire hydrants.
Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

🚨 Thin Ice Warning 🚨

Cold temps don’t mean safe ice. No ice is safe ice.
Tidal ponds and waterways are especially dangerous — moving water creates voids and weak spots under the ice, causing it to give way without warning.

What looks solid can fail in seconds. Please stay off frozen ponds, lagoons, and waterways and keep kids and pets away.

When in doubt, stay out. ❄️⚠️

🚒 STRUCTURE FIRE 🚒

Units responded to a dryer fire and were able to quickly contain the fire to the area of origin. The single-family residence was occupied at the time, and both occupants safely evacuated without injury.

Thanks to a rapid response, the fire did not spread beyond the utility room; however, the home was heavily filled with smoke. Firefighters remained on scene to confirm there was no extension of the fire and to ventilate smoke from the residence.

No injuries were reported.

🚒 Help Us Keep Brigantine Safe During This Winter Storm ❄️

As snow and ice build up, we’re asking residents to help by clearing snow and ice from fire hydrants near your home or business. Every second counts during an emergency, and a clear hydrant can make a life-saving difference.

How you can help:
• Clear a 3-foot path around the hydrant
• Remove snow and ice from around the caps and outlets
• Keep hydrants visible from the street

Thank you for helping us help you and your neighbors stay safe. Your support truly matters! 💙
