What does a doctor do? According to local kids… a little bit of everything. 💙👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

For Doctors' Day, we asked local students to share what they think doctors do — and their answers were funny, thoughtful, creative, and honestly… pretty spot on.

In this video, Dr. Joel Meyer, Chief Medical Officer at Intermountain Health Platte Valley Hospital, reads a few of their responses and drawings in honor of the physicians who care for our community every day.

Join us in wishing our doctors a happy Doctors' Day and thanking them for the compassion, skill, and care they bring to every patient, every day. 💙

Hot flashes. Sleepless nights. Feeling out of control in your own body.

For one Intermountain Health patient, menopause symptoms like insomnia and 10–12 hot flashes a day were impacting every part of her life—from her energy at work to her ability to rest at night.

She wasn’t sure if help was out there. But after connecting with Dr. Jennifer Wilson, everything changed.

Through thoughtful listening and a personalized treatment plan, Dr. Wilson prescribed hormone therapy to help manage her symptoms. Within weeks, the difference was life-changing—she’s now sleeping through the night and has gone over a month without day or night sweats.

“I feel like myself again,” she shared.

At Platte Valley Hospital, we’re here to make sure women feel heard, supported, and cared for—especially during life transitions like menopause. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

During Women’s History Month, we’re proud to honor the women whose vision helped shape health care in our communities.

In the late 1800s, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth brought compassionate care to Colorado. Pioneering leaders like Mother Xavier Ross, Sr. Pancratia Bonfils, and Sr. Praxedes Carty helped establish hospitals that served growing communities and ensured people had access to care when they needed it most.

Decades later, as Denver’s health care needs continued to grow, sisters including Sr. Mary Pierre, Sr. Mary Asella, and Sr. Mary Keiran helped lead the planning for a new Saint Joseph Hospital campus in 1959. The hospital—known for its signature radial towers—opened in 1961 and continued the Sisters’ mission of caring for the community.

More than a century later, their legacy lives on across Intermountain Health hospitals along the Front Range. Every day, our caregivers carry forward the mission the Sisters set in motion: caring for people with compassion, dignity, and respect.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the generations of women whose courage and leadership helped build the foundation for the care we provide today. 💙

A simple walk was the first sign something wasn’t right for Brighton resident Pat Bartels.

Years after undergoing triple bypass surgery, Pat continued to face heart challenges — including persistent chest pain and multiple procedures. But last fall, a minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) at Platte Valley Hospital helped change everything.

Led by interventional cardiologist Peter Boulous, Pat’s care plan addressed two major issues: blocked arteries and a deteriorating heart valve. After undergoing a novel drug-coated balloon angioplasty followed by the valve replacement procedure, Pat quickly began to feel the difference.

Within weeks, she took her first long walk without chest pain.

Today, Pat is back to doing what she loves — exercising, staying active, and spending time with her granddaughters.

Her advice to others: listen to your body and don’t ignore symptoms.
