When everything feels scary, uncertain, and out of your control, having the right nurse can change everything. Platte Valley Hospital is proud to recognize Michelle McLaughlin, RN, with the L.O.V.E. Award for the steady presence, compassion, and trust she brings to patients and families during their hardest moments.

Michelle was nominated by a patient’s loved one who shared how she took the time to explain every detail of the care plan, answer questions with patience, and create space for honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations — all with warmth and zero judgment. In the middle of fear, exhaustion, and pain, Michelle made it feel safe to speak up, ask questions, and be part of the care team. Thank you Michelle for your care and compassion. 💙

Always tired, no matter how much you sleep. Feeling foggy, anxious, or not quite like yourself. Watching your weight change without any clear reason.
These experiences can be frustrating — and for many people, the thyroid is the missing piece.

The thyroid is a small gland with a big job, helping regulate energy, metabolism, mood, and more. When it’s out of balance, it can affect both your physical and emotional wellbeing. The good news? Thyroid conditions are common, diagnosable, and treatable.

This Thyroid Awareness Month, we want you to know you’re not alone — and you don’t have to just “push through” symptoms that don’t feel normal. If something feels off, talk with your provider. Getting answers can be the first step toward feeling like yourself again.

Shorter days, colder weather, and busy schedules can take a toll on mental health. For some, it’s more than the “winter blues.” Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that can affect mood, energy, sleep, and daily life.

Signs can look different for everyone—feeling low most of the day, losing interest in things you enjoy, changes in sleep or appetite, or struggling to get through everyday tasks. And these feelings can affect not just you, but the people around you.

The good news: SAD is treatable. Support may include light therapy, counseling, healthy routines, and, when needed, medication. Small steps—like getting outside during daylight, prioritizing sleep, and setting realistic expectations—can also help.

💙 If your mood is interfering with daily life, don’t brush it off. Support is available, and asking for help is a sign of strength.
