Happy Friday Friends!
With the weather changing and the uptick in upper respiratory issues we want to take some time to discuss hidden tooth infections that drain into the sinuses. Say WHAT?! Yes, infected upper teeth may not present with the typical toothache. Rather, they may present as a persistent sinus infection. Constant post nasal drip, nasal pressure that is unrelieved and even persistent ear pain all unrelieved with repeated medical therapies may be attributed to hidden tooth infections.
These types of infections can be hard to diagnose as most dentists will not pick up on the infiltration on their usual x-rays, and the medical cat scans used by the Ear Nose and Throat surgeons may not show the infected teeth.
Oral surgeons and endodontists look specifically at the relationship between teeth and the sinuses and have higher resolution imaging to be able to effectively diagnose these types of infections.
Don't rule out the possibility of hidden tooth infections if you have persistent sinus infection symptoms.
Have a great weekend friends! Remember that taking care of your oral health improves your total health.
