Friendly Senior Living

Friendly Senior Living Friendly Senior Living is a continuum of caring communities - Cloverwood, Friendly Home, Glenmere, Lily Brook, Linden Knoll, and Lovejoy.

Because friends care ... Always. In 1849, a group of benevolent women formed the "Rochester Society for the Relief of Friendless and Homeless Females." As the Society grew, an old tavern was purchased on the corner of East Avenue and Alexander Street in downtown Rochester for its new location. The Society was then incorporated under the name "The Rochester Home for the Friendless." As the mission of the organization evolved and the need for services increased, the Home moved to its current location at 3156 East Avenue in Brighton, and became known as "The Rochester Friendly Home." Later, the name changed to simply "The Friendly Home," as it is known today. Although our name has changed over the years, the sentiments and philosophy that first inspired the original Society have remained constant. From an organization that sheltered homeless women to an organization that is committed to providing a continuum of care to older adults, The Friendly Home has always been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those we serve

This week, our Members spent time together preparing a cozy slow-cooker recipe, filling the kitchen with delicious aromas and even warmer conversation. It wasn’t just about making lunch — it was about sharing stories, laughter, and the simple joy of creating something together.

At the Friendly Home, it’s these everyday moments that make life feel full. 💛

“Every visit is a chance to learn and grow.”
— Evan, Volunteer

Evan started volunteering in fourth grade and has spent the past year at the Friendly Home building connections that matter. From bonding with fellow Buffalo Bills fans to talking with a Member who truly valued the companionship, he’s discovered something powerful: you get out of volunteering what you put into it.

Moments shared. Stories exchanged. Hearts filled on both sides.

Sometimes compassion looks likethe simple joy of playing a game together. 💛

In this moment of ring toss, there’s encouragement and connection — the kind that reminds us we’re never just passing time. We’re building relationships.

At the Friendly Home, compassion lives in moments like these.

Our Residents at Cloverwood were treated to a beautiful live performance by a string quartet from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's Youth Orchestra ( )— and the room was filled with smiles and applause.

Afterward, their Youth Orchestra and Education Projects Manager shared, “We had such a wonderful time with your Residents.”

The feeling was mutual.

Music connects generations in the most powerful way. 🎶

A day surrounded by beauty

Our Members recently enjoyed an outing to the breathtaking George Eastman Museum, just in time for the vibrant Dutch Connection Floral Display. Every turn brought another burst of color — tulips in full bloom, fragrant hyacinths, and smiles just as bright.

Moments like these are about more than a change of scenery. They’re about connection. Conversation. Wonder. The simple joy of experiencing something beautiful together.

Because living well means continuing to explore, discover, and be inspired — at every age.

We’re still smiling about the beautiful Valentine’s Day dinner at Cloverwood, where Residents gathered to celebrate friendship, connection, and the joy of community.

Here’s a little look back at an evening filled with happy hearts.

Because it’s often the little things that bring the most joy.
