Friendly Senior Living

Friendly Senior Living Friendly Senior Living is a continuum of caring communities - Cloverwood, Friendly Home, Glenmere, Lily Brook, Linden Knoll, and Lovejoy.

Because friends care ... Always. In 1849, a group of benevolent women formed the "Rochester Society for the Relief of Friendless and Homeless Females." As the Society grew, an old tavern was purchased on the corner of East Avenue and Alexander Street in downtown Rochester for its new location. The Society was then incorporated under the name "The Rochester Home for the Friendless." As the mission of the organization evolved and the need for services increased, the Home moved to its current location at 3156 East Avenue in Brighton, and became known as "The Rochester Friendly Home." Later, the name changed to simply "The Friendly Home," as it is known today. Although our name has changed over the years, the sentiments and philosophy that first inspired the original Society have remained constant. From an organization that sheltered homeless women to an organization that is committed to providing a continuum of care to older adults, The Friendly Home has always been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those we serve

When the chef is smiling, and the oysters are freshly shucked, you know something special is happening.

Cloverwood’s own Chef Mike recently hosted a dining demo featuring fresh oysters paired with a refreshing sauvignon blanc spritzer — and this photo says it all. Moments like these bring our dining program to life, where quality ingredients, chef-led experiences, and great company are always on the menu.

At Cloverwood, residents enjoy restaurant-style dining with cooked-to-order meals, seasonal offerings, and the freedom to savor food that feels both special and social — every single day.

There’s something special about creating together.

Volunteers recently spent time with Glenmere Residents sewing placemats and cozy lap blankets — sharing stories and a lot of heart along the way.

It’s a beautiful reminder that the simplest moments of connection can mean the most.

Creativity has been part of Irene’s life from the very beginning — and it still shines today. A former educator with a lifelong love of making art, Irene now shares a collection of mixed-media collages inspired by one of her favorite subjects: birds (especially cardinals, which she loves seeing against the winter snow).

Whether she’s painting, coloring, or enjoying time with friends, Irene finds joy and calm in creating. Her work is a beautiful reminder that imagination, expression, and creativity truly last a lifetime.

We’re proud to feature Irene’s colorful, uplifting art in our Member Gallery — be sure to stop by and enjoy her work.
