Today, we honor the heroism and legacy of Boston Fire Department Lieutenant Edward Walsh. Twelve years ago, Ed gave his life in the line of duty, and his courage, compassion, and dedication to serving and protecting our city continue to inspire us all.
For more than a decade, Ed proudly served the Boston community—not only as a firefighter, but also as the Director of Facilities at the Oak Square YMCA. He was cherished by his colleagues and admired by everyone who had the privilege to know him.
His legacy endures through YMCA Camp Walsh, where his passion for creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for children to learn, grow, and build confidence lives on every single day.
We also stand with the families of Ed and Firefighter Michael Kennedy, keeping them close in our thoughts and honoring their incredible bravery and service.
We are deeply grateful to the Ed Walsh Foundation for its continued generosity, which has provided countless families with access to Camp Walsh through our scholarship fund.
May we honor Ed’s memory by continuing to work together toward a stronger, safer, and more caring future for all Bostonians.
