Check out this neat case! 👀 This photo shows the eye of one our patients who generously let us share for educational purposes. This patient had LASIK with a Kamra corneal inlay which is an opaque black ring that is inserted into the cornea and allows light to pass through the middle. This pinhole effect improves near vision in the eye so that the patient does not have to wear bifocals. This procedure was only available in the U.S. from 2015-2022 and is rare to see.

⭐Staff Spotlight: Chas! Have you met her at our Wise office? She says, "I have been with Highlands Optometry for 10 years. I started out as a Optometric Technician. After 5 years, I started billing insurance and helping out at the front desk. I enjoy working and talking with patients and getting to know them on a personal level.
I am happily married to my husband Paul. We have been married for 24 years and still going strong. I have 2 kids Haleigh and Jaxon who keep me busy. My hobbies include spending time with my family and fur babies, reading and going to the beach."⭐

Our world of ever-evolving technology is amazing, but online vision tests are *not* an advancement in our field. In fact, they can be dangerous if they are perceived to take the place of an eye exam. An exam with an eye doctor to evaluate the health of your eyes and the fit of your contact lenses is essential to maintaining your best vision for life. "Hi! I'm Erica, and I’m proud to be part of the team at Highlands Optometry. As an optical tech, I help patients find the perfect eyewear to suit their vision needs, style, and lifestyle. I love being able to combine fashion and function—there’s something really rewarding about helping someone see clearly and feel confident in their glasses. 😎 One of my favorite parts of the job is getting to know our patients and making sure they leave with a smile. Outside of work, I enjoy roller skating, line dancing, and spending time with family, and I’m always happy to chat about the latest frame trends or lens technology. 💦✨No one wants to get soap in their eyes, but don't skip that eyelid hygiene! Bacteria, oil, and demodex mites can build up at the base of the lashes and cause irritation called blepharitis that increases your risk of styes and worsens dry eye. Our doctors frequently recommend lid hygiene products to ensure your eyelids stay squeaky clean and healthy. Using little circles, scrub the base of your eyelashes once a day with a gentle face wash, baby shampoo, or lid scrub wipes. ✨💦

Over the past few years there have been multiple instances, including last week, where I have asked the staff to abruptly reschedule upcoming appointments. I understand that when you make an appointment with us, you are taking time away from work or other obligations, and any time we have to reschedule is not a decision taken lightly. The truth is I’ve needed to travel to Arkansas to see my father not knowing if those days would be his last on earth. This past Tuesday that day finally came as he took his last breath.

One thing he imparted on me was to make sure patients felt seen, understood, and appreciated. I will always strive to ensure patients are having an enjoyable experience every step of every visit at our offices.
