Shawn Thompson-Snow, counseling services. LCMHC, LADC It is a place to think, to meditate, to laugh and begin to reestablish your psychological equilibrium. We sometimes assume the other knows what we are thinking.

COUNSELING APPROACH: I provide a safe emotional environment to enable my clients to explore their inner most thoughts and behaviors that have upset their psychological balance. PHILOSOPHY: I believe in a client centered (Rogerian), non-judgemental approach to therapy. Together we can discover what it is that has caused difficulties in your life. I also work with you through an approach called cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). We all have “mental tape recordings” that play continuously and may frequently tell us that we are “stupid, ugly, not worthy”. These are known as dysfunctional beliefs which all too often govern our everyday life. These faulty beliefs can cause depression, anxiety and anger issues that keep us from enjoying life and working to our potential. Employing CBT together we can unearth these fallacies and begin to erase and rerecord a more positive functional belief system. We can “right” our inbalance and begin to fulfill our life’s goals. COUPLES: Couples can find a place where they are heard and understood. All too frequently in this hectic workaday world we simply forget to communicate with our loved ones. Marriage counseling can help you regain that communication link that seems to have been lost.

Anxiety affects everyone regardless of age or s*x. We all have busy full lives and sometimes we do not take care of ourselves as well as we should. Consider begining your day with mindfullness meditation/relaxation skills. Guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxtion techniques are two great ways to start your day before you reach for the caffeine. Remember you do important work and you deserve to take time our for yourself.
