Not to say you should be starving yourself in anticipation for the holidays but maybe get that diet a bit more dialed in over the next couple months so that those holiday feasts with the family taste even better (and plus guilt free.)

It does not take much to get healthier and more fit than the majority of the population. Unless your goal is to be a VERY fit person you do not need to track calories, workout every single day, and take a ton of supplements.

Here’s what to change about your daily habits that will make the biggest changes:
1. Quit snacking on junk foods almost entirely and just eat 3-4 decently healthy meals
2. Lift weights for 2-3 hours a week
3. Walk at least 8,000 steps a day
4. Prioritize protein, fruits, and vegetables
5. No high sugar drinks
6. Limit alcohol consumption (especially beer)

Most people probably know this but I think it’s a good reminder with New Year’s resolutions coming up to remember becoming a more fit version of yourself shouldn’t be completely changing your habits. Make small incremental changes that you can keep up in the long term.

USE IT OR LOSE IT.

Research shows that people who maintain consistent physical fitness as they age experience slower biological aging, better cardiovascular health, stronger muscles and bones, and lower risks of chronic diseases compared to those who cycle in and out of shape. Studies have also found that lifelong exercisers have metabolic profiles and muscle tissue similar to those decades younger, while those with inconsistent exercise patterns tend to lose muscle mass, gain fat, and see quicker declines in strength, endurance, and overall health with age. Consistency, not intensity, is the key factor in aging well.

When the evidence is so obvious I really have a hard time understanding why someone would rather FEEL WORSE as they age instead of putting in a just few hours a week to avoid that.

Age isn’t the reason you’re over weight and weak. Your habits are.

The average American under eats protein and overeats carbs and fats.

According to the CDC, the average American male consumes the following daily:
Calories: 2,640
16% Protein: 105g
47% Carbs: 310g
37% Fats: 109g

Imagine how much better the average man would look and feel if he ate more protein, ate less carbs and fat, lifted some weights, and did a little cardio.
