“My therapist is a Jewish, Liberal, Black-Lives-Matter-Feminist, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s doppelganger. If I didn’t know these things about her, I wouldn’t feel as comfortable about opening up. I know that her grandmother escaped to Poland in 1943, her office has memorabilia relating to her culture and beliefs. From her “I Heart Obama” sticker that’s on the left side of her desk, to the Matzo Ball soup she just had for lunch (Haitians have a version of this soup) I felt at home).”

Don’t let the stigmas cause you to not get the help you need. I know, I know, medication for mental health illnesses are often not discussed. In my Culture when you mention it everyone looks at you like “are you crazy or something?” Well no, I’m not crazy but without these medications my panic attacks become unmanageable and my night terrors cause insomnia which won’t make me ok. Don’t skip your meds, take them and talk to your therapist and psychiatrist if any changes need to be made. Take your mental health serious.
