It’s cool to care about your community! 😎 Thank you to Martha for telling Brockton’s story.

Armed with a $1.6 million in federal funds, advocates in Brockton set out to reduce overdose deaths by 40%. Then COVID hit, and the crisis spiraled, with fentanyl lacing drugs like crack and co***ne. Their work could become a model for what works, or doesn't, to save lives.

06/20/2022

Mobile team is outreach only (no trailer) today! We’ll be making rounds at HIP/Pastor Roberto’s and Westgate Lanes.

Our Story

In the Spring of 2020, Brockton Neighborhood Health Center was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health HEALing Communities study to offer substance use treatment and medical services out of a mobile unit in the City of Brockton, MA. The model for this unit is based on the CareZone van run by the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program in Boston, MA. The Kraft Family generously donated the trailer unit to make this initiative possible.

BNHC used local overdose data, feedback from outreach workers, and suggestions community members who will likely access these mobile services to create the Community Care In-Reach unit. This mobile unit aims to provide low-barrier substance use treatment, harm reduction supplies, and other medical services on the street level to patients who may not be able to access these services within the busy, downtown health center.
