April is Stress Awareness Month 💙

At Choose Courage Counseling, PLLC, we know that stress is a natural part of life—but it doesn’t have to take over. Taking small, intentional steps each day can make a big difference in how you feel.

Here are a few simple tips to help manage stress:

✨ Pause & Breathe – Even 60 seconds of slow, deep breathing can calm your nervous system.
✨ Stay Connected – Reach out to someone you trust. You don’t have to carry everything alone.
✨ Move Your Body – A short walk or gentle stretching can help release built-up tension.
✨ Set Boundaries – It’s okay to say no and protect your time and energy.
✨ Practice Self-Compassion – Give yourself grace. You’re doing the best you can.

If stress is feeling overwhelming, support is available—and you deserve it.

Choose courage. Choose healing. 💛

Oklahoma allows individuals with autism to voluntarily add a designation to their driver’s license or state ID to assist in communication with law enforcement during traffic stops. This, enacted via HB 3671, is implemented through Service Oklahoma and verified by a doctor, psychologist, or psychiatrist. It is optional and can be removed at any time.

Key Details of the Oklahoma Autism Designation
Purpose: To improve interactions and communication with law enforcement and emergency medical professionals.
How to Apply: Individuals can request the designator be added to their driver’s license, state ID, or in the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS).
Verification: The request must be accompanied by documentation from a licensed primary care physician, psychologist, or psychiatrist.
Privacy: The information is for law enforcement use only and is not considered a public record, protecting the privacy of the individual.
Removal: The designation can be removed at any time by request.

Additional Resources
Alternative Options: In addition to the license designation, individuals can use the MVC Affidavit of Communication Impairment to add an indicator to their vehicle registration.

Autism Foundation of Oklahoma: The Autism Foundation of Oklahoma provides free, optional, and pre-printed visor cards or wallet cards that can be used to notify law enforcement of a diagnosis.

Blue Envelope Program: Some local agencies use a Blue Envelope program to store documents and help with communication.

This initiative aims to enhance safety and understanding between individuals on the spectrum and first responders.
