The Counseling Center

The Counseling Center At the Counseling Center, we help people solve problems, wrestle with painful or confusing feelings and navigate through difficult times.

Our goal is to help people build new and expanded lives for themselves. The Counseling Center is a group of seasoned, highly trained psychotherapists. Services offered include a variety of modalities, such as marital counseling, individual adult psychotherapy, individual child psychotherapy, family therapy, and parent guidance, as well as vocational counseling. Once an inquiry is made, potential clients are placed with the appropriate therapist for their particular needs. All contact is kept strictly confidential.

"Let them" is the mindset shift we all need, but it’s harder than it looks.
While Mel Robbins’ "Let Them" theory is a brilliant way to frame boundaries, it’s actually rooted in deep-seated clinical concepts like Locus of Control and Emotional Detachment.

In therapy, we help you nurture and build these tools:
Healing from people-pleasing, reducing social anxiety, and protecting your peace in difficult relationships.

Sometimes, "letting them" triggers our own fears of abandonment or loss of control. If you’re struggling to let go, let’s talk. The Counseling Center is here to help you navigate the "why" behind the "how" and practicing the “let them” so that you can focus on “let me”.

This evening will include a moderated dialogue between Ben and Counseling Center therapists Jenn Jordan and Jennifer Klein. The last 30 minutes will be open for questions from the audience.

In Season 5, Episode 11 of Friends ("The One with All the Resolutions"), the Friends cast provides a masterclass in why New Year’s goals often fail. From a therapeutic lens, their resolutions are a perfect example of focusing on external quirks rather than genuine internal growth.

While we laugh at Ross’s leather pants or Rachel’s struggle with gossip, these goals highlight the toxicity we often wrap around self-improvement. Instead of seeking healthy evolution, the characters try to "fix" parts of their personalities they deem annoying. This "fix-it" mentality treats the self as a project to be completed rather than a person to be nurtured and cared for.

Why this didn’t end up working:

Performance vs. Progress: These goals are about how they appear to others, not how they feel within themselves.

The Perfection Trap: The episode shows how "all-or-nothing" thinking turns self-improvement into a source of stress rather than a path to peace.

This year, let’s leave the "leather pants" resolutions behind. Real growth isn't about eliminating your quirks; it’s about understanding and embracing them. You are special and you are seen.

RECLAIMING YOUR OWN HOLIDAY MAGIC ✨

The holidays are meant for connection, tradition, and gratitude, but they often become a whirlwind of obligations. This year, let's interrupt autopilot.

Pause. Savor your first sip of coffee. Sit with the glow of the tree. Let small, honest moments reconnect you to your senses and your own joy.

Your holidays don't need to be bigger to be better. They need to be honest, intentional, and reflective of who you are today. The magic isn't gone; it just asks you to slow down enough to feel it.”

“I wish I had never been born”. - George Bailey

George Bailey’s struggle is deeply relatable: He felt like a failure because his life didn't match his grand ambitions. He confused his self-worth with his net worth and his unmet dreams.

But Clarence the Angel shows him a profound truth: Your value isn't measured by what you do or what you achieve, but by the connections you create and the kindness you extend.

The impact of your life is the compounding interest of a thousand small, good choices. If you are struggling with your self-esteem this holiday season, remember George. You don't have to be a millionaire or a world traveler to be essential. You are important and needed simply because you exist.

We often see the Grinch's isolation as just malice, but it’s a classic defense mechanism.

He retreated to the cold of Mt. Crumpit because the pain of feeling different and rejected was too much to bear in Whoville.

This is a powerful metaphor: hurt people build walls, not because they are inherently bad, but because they are trying to protect a deeply wounded self.

His attempts to steal Christmas weren't about greed; they were a desperate attempt to make others feel the same emptiness he felt.

If you've ever felt the urge to push people away or sabotage joy, remember the Grinch. Your heart isn't too small; it's simply trying to keep itself safe. The journey back to connection is always worth the risk.

This , you have the power to change someone’s story. 💙

At the Counseling Center, we believe therapy should be within reach for everyone, not just those who can afford it. Yet for many, the cost of care becomes the barrier that keeps them from getting the support they need.

Your donation helps break down that barrier. Every dollar goes directly toward making therapy more affordable for individuals who are struggling financially, giving them the chance to heal, to be heard, and to find hope again.

When you give, you’re not just funding therapy, you’re giving someone the courage to start their journey toward wellness.

Together, we can make mental health care accessible, equitable, and full of compassion.

💛 Give hope. Give healing. Give today. 💛
