Stress is a main driver of sickness and poor health... 😱

I just wanted to put that out there to remind you, paying attention to ways to improve your relationship to stress is not just something that feels good (though that is reason enough!), it is actually important for your health and life!

So let’s keep exploring simple and effective ways to improve stress coping for Stress Awareness Month.

Stress Buster #2.

Get Whatever Is Stressing You Out Of Your Mind By Putting It Down On Paper. 🙇🏻‍♀️📖

Otherwise known as JOURNALING. 📝

Or if you aren’t into it, even a simple pros-and-cons list or a prioritization list will be very powerful!

Here is why this works:

When we have all of these thoughts swirling around in our heads, it can feel like the weight of the world.

But when we get it down on paper, it often takes shape and becomes clearer, making it more manageable.

Instead of letting those thoughts, fears, and responsibilities run free in every direction of your mind, they are now corralled and more under your control.

How it works for me:

I like to journal regularly, but I do journal more when I have something I want to work through.

It can feel counterproductive at first to sit down and write what is stressing me, as if I am affirming it...

But after years of journaling, I trust the process and know that as I get my feelings and fears on paper, I naturally will start to see my way to a clearer and more positive path.

It doesn’t solve everything. But it sure helps and shortens the time I live in that stress state!

Could you use some stress busters this month?

April happens to be National Stress Awareness Month, so let’s do it!

Stress Buster #1

Incorporate Meditation into your daily routine. 🧘
Why does that bust your stress?

Because it can lower your blood pressure, deepen your breathing, relax your muscles and mind, and overall have a positive impact on your experience of stress.

Especially when you practice consistently over time, the results are cumulative.

Even though the things in life that are stressing you may not change, your ability to stay chill can!!

A Couple of Meditation Ideas:

If you find you are intimidated by meditation, maybe you don’t know where to start or can’t sit still, don’t worry, you can do what works for you. It will still help! It is not about being perfect.

1. One of my favorite meditations is simply to sit quietly and, one by one, pay attention to each of my senses.

Give attention to what I see, then what I hear, feel, smell, and taste. You can spend as much or as little time on each one as you like or have time for. It is a nice reset to get present.

I bet you’ll be surprised by how present you feel when you bring what is in the background into your awareness.

2. This month, I am taking advantage of a free 21-day meditation on the Deepak Chopra App.

I love his guided meditations because they have a theme (this one is Awakening: A Journey into Timeless Awareness), he shares inspirational thoughts to set the stage, and the meditations are short, just around 20 minutes.

First thing in the morning, drink a glass of water. 💧

When we sleep, we tend to get dehydrated.

And many people skip the water and go straight to coffee or tea.

Try this: while you are making your morning beverage of choice, drink a glass of water.

Pretty simple, right?! But it makes a big difference.

Your blood needs water to maintain good volume and flow in order to deliver oxygen and nutrients to your cells.

Starting your day with a glass of water can boost your energy better than the caffeine you may be reaching for!

As a bonus, I find that this practice sets the stage to drink more water throughout the day, too.

Can’t hurt. Just give it a try!

Think of it like a shower for your insides. A flush and refresh for your system.
