Runner’s knee slowing you down? 🏃‍♀️💢

Good news: it’s usually an overload and mechanics issue, not a “ruined” knee.

In rehab we focus on:
➡️ Calming symptoms (relative rest, smart activity tweaks)
➡️ Building strength in the quads, hips, and core
➡️ Improving mobility through the hips, quads, and calves
➡️ Retraining running form and gradually ramping mileage back up

Why it matters:
✅ You get back to running sooner
✅ You break the cycle of flare-ups
✅ You protect your knees long term, not just “push through it”

If your knee is talking to you every run, that’s your sign to listen, not stop forever. With the right plan, you can keep stacking miles without constantly worrying about your knee. 💪

Everyone has an opinion when an athlete gets injured.
Especially when it’s Lindsey Vonn.

But here’s what matters:
she wasn’t reckless. She was informed.

There isn’t one “right” decision in sport.
There’s your decision—based on facts, risk, goals, and what you’re willing to live with.

Some athletes stop.
Some push. (And kids need the help of their parents to make decisions!)
Both are valid.

Our job isn’t to decide for you.
It’s to give you the full picture—so you can choose what’s right for your body, your sport, and your life.

Rolled an ankle but almost back to game speed? 👟

Late-stage rehab is where we turn “healing” into “ready to compete” for our youth female athletes.
Here’s how we like to progress in the final phase after a sprain:

1️⃣ Power and plyos – controlled jumping, hopping, leaping, and landing drills to rebuild confidence with take-offs and landings.
2️⃣ Change of direction – cutting, shuffling, shifting, and deceleration work that mimics her sport instead of just straight-line running.
3️⃣ Sport-specific drills – position- and sport-based patterns (end range positions, tumbling, defensive slides, approaches, cutting to the ball) to close the gap between rehab and practice.
4️⃣ Return-to-play testing – balance, strength, and agility checks to be sure she’s explosive, symmetrical, and truly ready for full games (not just “it feels okay”).

If your athlete keeps taping her ankle and hoping for the best, it might be time for a structured late-stage plan. 💪

Team workout = yoga 🧘‍♀️
Today our Mequon PT crew rolled out the mats—and yes, it’s absolutely part of the job.

As a holistic physical therapy practice in Mequon and Brookfield that focuses on injury prevention for the female athlete across the lifespan, we don’t just treat joints and muscles. We look at the whole human—movement patterns, stress load, sleep, nutrition, and nervous system regulation.

Yoga is one of our favorite tools for balancing physical strength with mental resilience, which is why we incorporate it both in our own routines and in client care.

Right now, we’re seeing a lot of hypermobile yogis in the clinic—which means we’re spending intentional mentorship time dialing in the balance between stability and mobility. That includes learning when to calm things down, when to build strength, and how to use hands-on manual therapy to support fascia and muscles that are doing way too much work.

Because flexibility without control isn’t freedom—it’s risk.
And strong doesn’t have to mean stiff. 💪✨
