Human connection sustains us like nothing else can - as long as it's healthy, meaningful, and reciprocally caring.

It doesn't take much:

- a small laugh with a stranger about the ridiculous weather while waiting for your coffee

- asking about a colleagues kids' or aging parents, or their hobbies and plans for the weekend

- finding out that you have similar movie or book interests as someone you only know professionally

- giving a genuine, kind-hearted compliment to someone in passing

- texting a friend to let them know you miss them or how much they mean to you.

Loneliness and disconnection looks different from human to human, but we all experience it.

Meaningful human connection almost always looks the same in humans - an authentic smile, relaxing the shoulders, and feeling grounded.

Which internal voice are you listening to lately... Fear or Love? That 'little voice' inside our minds is extremely powerful.

Over time, this internal voice becomes the internal voice of our self-worth and self-confidence, and for better or worse, we believe what it says.

Ever feel like you're about to drop all of what you're juggling? Of course you do. We all do. Humans were not designed to handle all of this.

It's exhausting. And the accumulation of doing it day after day takes a serious toll.

If you haven't done it lately, it's time to pause and do a brief self assessment.

How are speaking to yourself?
How's your relationship with yourself?

What do you need to improve how you take care of yourself?
What do you need to do to speak more compassionately toward yourself?

Life is hard these days. If our internal voice is negative and critical, we may often compare ourselves to others and constantly think and feel like we’re ‘not good enough’.

Self-compassion practices are how we learn to be kind to ourselves, which in turn allows us to lower our stress levels and be more present in our day-to-day lives. We can take good care of ourselves, and continue to grow and become better humans. Ultimately, we become a better spouse, a better parent, a better friend, and a better colleague.

We believe what we tell ourselves. Words are powerful. So please, take good care of yourself and others.

How is your relationship with yourself? Trusting ourselves, loving ourselves, and having confidence in ourselves is life-long work.

It requires being intentional, showing up for ourselves, and being thoughtful and caring toward our needs at a deeper level.

Do a "relationship with self" audit by asking what it is you need - on a deeper level - mentally, emotionally, physically, and relationally. Then show up for yourself by choosing one small thing you can do each day to trust that you will take care of you.

You may lean into a creative outlet, a good friendship and community, volunteer activities, hobbies you enjoy, beliefs and values that you feel strongly about, or countless other ideas.

Every day you have the opportunity to choose what will continue as a part of you, and what you will leave behind. Choose wisely.

As we spend the month reflecting, to rediscover who we want to be, Lisa's words make so much sense!

Typically we treat others better than ourselves (friends, family, colleagues, and pets...). If we seek to be a better human, that means we need to treat ourselves with respect as well.

Today, practice speaking to yourself (and others) with more Respect.
