Today’s symbolism lesson focuses on the lesser known/seen recovery emblem.
On occasion, you’ll see this symbol used in memorial art. It’s widely used and recognized by groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
The symbol is a simple circle and triangle. The triangle recognizes the three core elements in recovery - Unity, Service, and Recovery. The encompassing circle represents the wholeness or global fellowship of those supporting recovery. The number in the center recognizes the years of sobriety.
To those in recovery, this symbol is as important as it gets in their continuing quest for sobriety. We recently engraved the recovery emblem on a monument for a gentleman who celebrated 43 years of sobriety. He was proud, and his family was proud. It just seemed fitting to honor his accomplishment. After all, a monument tells a story, and it was a huge part of his story.
Kudos to all who are in recovery. Keep up the good work.
