Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy L. Moak will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 11 o’clock in the morning; the family will receive visitors at the funeral home on the same morning from 9 o’clock until the time of services. Graveside services will be held following the funeral at the Monticello Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Moak, 65, of Wesson, Mississippi passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. She was born on July 1, 1960 to Bilbo and Gladys Reed.

Peggy was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a woman whose faith shaped every decision that she made. Peggy was a God-fearing woman and trusted that God was always working even on the heaviest of days. Her family was her pride and joy, but she would also say they were her biggest headache. Peggy showed up for the people she loved, no questions asked. Peggy loved big; sometimes with a hug, sometimes with a tough truth, and sometimes with a quiet prayer. She will be missed more than words can say.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stevie Joe Moak; her parents; two brothers, Tim and James Reed; and two sisters, Patsy Carson and Doris Rushing.

Survivors include her children Johnny Martin, Joseph Martin, Justin Martin, Dana Rutland (Travis), and Jeremy Martin; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind four brothers, Ronnie Reed, Elvis Reed, Steve Barnett and Ted Barnett; and two sisters, Alline Wells and Mary Wiley.

Mrs. Smith, 95, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida went home to Jesus on October 26, 2025. She was born in Harrisville, Mississippi on December 28, 1929, to Gussie and Allie Brock.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven. After marrying, she served alongside her husband, John, as missionaries for over forty years, spending most of that time in Indonesia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. John D. Smith; and by her ten brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Abigail May (Russell) of Jacksonville Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Rusty May, Christy Podstawa (Mike), and John May; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Allie, and Joseph; along with her extended family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Dean Hart will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 12 o’clock noon; two hours of visitation will precede the service on the same morning at the funeral home from 10 o’clock until time of service. Graveside services will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. Brookhaven Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hart, 69, of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 11, 1956 to Hugh Harrison and Hilda Grice Hart.

He loved his family – especially his grandchildren – and his church family; he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and attended Open Door Baptist Church in Summit, MS. He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing on the Mississippi River and at Cross Bayou, and spending time with his buddies at the fox pen running dogs. Most of all, he loved to aggravate everyone around him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Hart, and by a brother-in-law, Tony Porter.

Survivors include his mother, Hilda Hart; his beloved Marion Cutrer; a son, David Hart (April); two daughters, Holly Johnson (Alan) and Jill Faircloth (Cody); six grandchildren, Brooklyn, Millie, Adalynn, Rhett, Waylon, and Caroline; a brother, Kevin Hart (Betti); and two sisters Deborah Smith (Ricky) and Annie Porter; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

June Ann Smith, 88 years of age, a resident of Brookhaven, Mississippi passed away October 31, 2025 at the home of her daughter in Lawrence County, Mississippi. June was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 22, 1937 to Charles A. Hemphill and Viola Grace Harris.

June was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi. She dedicated her life to the service of the Lord, her five children and their extended families, and to anyone in need of a friend, a caregiver, or a kind word.

She is survived by her children; Kari L. Johnson, Laura C. King (David), Ivy D. Sermos (Gus), Matthew D. Smith (Suzy), and Michael L. Smith (Yvette); by her sisters Sylvia Thomas, Diana Hautau, Jeanette Mackey and her brother Charles Hemphill; and by fifteen loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her father, Charles A. Hemphill; her mother, Viola Grace Hemphill; her sisters, Theresa Borquist and Susie Flynn; her grandson Matthew Myles Smith; and her great grandson, Zachary Paul McLeod.

Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Brookhaven on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, beginning with the Rosary at 10:30 AM, visitation from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM followed by the Funeral Mass and burial at the Catholic cemetery in Brookhaven.

The family would like to thank her parish family, her friends at Brookhaven Housing Authority, her line dancing friends from the Senior Center, and Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother Mary for all their love.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Marie Cupit will be held at New Hope Methodist Church on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 10:00 in the morning; graveside services will follow in the Union Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Brookhaven Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 on Wednesday evening, October 8.

Eva Marie Case Cupit died peacefully Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Eva was born to Hollis E and Jewel Magee Case August 25, 1936. She married Malcolm Truly Cupit January10, 1955. They had three children, Nancy, Malcolm, and Norman. Malcolm Sr. Died in 1967 and Eva moved her family to Brookhaven. She had a long career with Brookhaven Separate School District as a teacher’s aide at Mamie Martin and Brookhaven Elementary Schools.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Neva Case, Susie Falvey, Bobbye Wallace as well her brother, Hollis Earl Case.

Eva is survived by her sister Mona Falvey, her children Nancy Cupit Montague (Charlie), Malcolm T. Cupit (Marlene) and Norman H. Cupit (Lori). Also left behind are 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Beehive Assisted Living and the Arden Hospice staff for their care

Funeral services for Debbie Faye Thorpe Shelton will be on October 5, 2025 at Brookhaven Funeral Home in Brookhaven, MS at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Shelton Family Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home will oversee the arrangements. Visitation will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home on October 5, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Debbie Shelton, 70, of Blue Hill, MS, passed away on the morning of October 3, 2025 at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. She was born in Natchez, MS on January 12, 1955 to Darol Lore Thorpe and Jane Perry Dunlap Thorpe.
On June 2, 1973, she married the love of her life, Charles Warren “Bull” Shelton. They had three boys, Chuck, Jason, and Seth Shelton. She was a member of Blue Hill Methodist Church. She owned and operated Shelton Poultry Farms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, her wonderful husband, Bull, sister, Tina Carothers, brother, Darol Thorpe, and grandson, Camden Shelton.

Survivors are her sister, Karen (Jeff) Bush, brother, Kenny Thorpe, brother, Tracy Thorpe, sister, JoDay Boyles, sister-in-law, Ginger Copeland, brother-in-law, Freddie (Katie) Shelton, brother-in-law, Eddie (Libby) Shelton, son, Chuck (Patty) Shelton, son, Jason (Mandy) Shelton, and son, Seth (Annie) Shelton, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Luke, Channell, Brenlee, Charley, Parker, Ella, and Hadley, whom she loved dearly.

In her free time, she loved crafting, gardening, making wreaths, traveling with her family to Gatlinburg, TN, and designing T-shirts for her grandchildren. Debbie also loved to shop and do word search puzzles.

Billie King Garrett sadly left us on September 24, 2025, following a long illness. She was born on June 16, 1938 to Henry and Inez King. Billie retired after 30 years of working for Bell South Telephone.

Preceding her in death are her parents; two sons, Kirk and Brian Smith; a brother, Robert King; and a nephew, J.T. O’Brien.

She leaves behind her siblings, Betty Stelz (Bud), Pat Reinartz (John) and Johnny King (Patricia); a daughter-in-law, Lucy Smith; two step-daughters, Laura Campbell (Chris) and Michelle Snow (Joe); one niece, Melinda Blaise (Rob); nephews, Hank King (Kristen) and Jared King (Amanda); along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial services will be held at New Hope Methodist Church (2216 Hwy 55 NW, Wesson, MS) on Friday, October 3, at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Church Cemetery Fund.

A graveside service will be held for Ms. Cupit on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin County, MS at 10:00 AM.

Dorothy Faye Cupit, 82, was born on November 5, 1942, in Franklin County, Mississippi to Cyrus Henry Cupit and Edith Coleman Cupit. She died September 17, 2025, in the Meadville Convalescent Home, Meadville, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers- Lloyd, James, Harold, and Claud.

She is survived by her brothers, Carl (Audrey) of Meadville, Bobby (Madonna) of Silsbee, Texas, and Gerald (Donnis) of Monticello, MS. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Doris of Forest, MS and Susie of Eddiceton, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

For many years, Dorothy lived with her mother in Brookhaven where they attended the First Assembly of God. Family members recall Dorothy’s gentle demeanor, love for laughter, enjoying new experiences and adventures, and always being eager for social interaction and she loved and was loved by many people.
The family wishes to extend thanks to all those who thoughtfully nursed and attended Dorothy at both Meadville Convalescent Home and Franklin County Memorial Hospital as well as past personal care givers, Sue Malone and Cathy Dunn. A very special thanks is owed Dr. Kimberly Estes for her professional care and helping us “carry Dorothy’s books.” We are very thankful for her help!
