There's a myth that doing contact improvisation means you have to touch people.
But the truth to me is that the core of this practice is presence, physical honesty, and deep listening. Listening to others, yes, but also and first to ourselves. It's a great place to practice honoring our needs and boundaries, moment to moment.
Last week in my contact improvisation class at
We played a lot with weight sharing. This week we'll also be practicing being heavy when we don't want to give our weight, atuning and connecting without touch, and leaving dances. These parts of CI don't always get as much press, but they're so vital to having super rich fun dances.
If you're a COA student, hope to see you there this afternoon! And if you're at DownEast local, more info soon on a monthly class and jam starting in March at
(Thanks , always love dancing with you, with or without touch)
