Continuing on with National Lung Cancer Awareness Month! It is important to recognize that smoking is one of the greatest risk factors in causing lung cancer. Quitting smoking at any time can significantly reduce the risk of developing lung cancer.

It is recommended that adults aged 50-80 years old that have a 20-pack-year smoking history and have smoked at all within the past 15 years complete annual low-dose CT scan screenings. A pack-year is the number of cigarette packs smoked per day times the number of years smoking.

Young people aren’t the only ones affected by diaper need — nearly half of adults with incontinence can’t afford the products they need.

This giving season, help us wipe out diaper need in Brookline by donating incontinence pads and adult briefs to Change is Good.

Tonight is our Health Champions Info Session Event!

Become a Community Health Champion for Health Equity in the Town of Brookline! The Brookline Department of Public Health and Human Services (“BDPHHS”), the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community Relations (ODEICR), and Women Thriving, Inc. have partnered together to run a pilot for the Community Health Champions Initiative. Health Champions is designed to promote health equity and build trust within our communities. Champions are beacons to help connect and encourage their neighbors to access local public health programs and resources.

Participants will:
- Be paid for your time spent in the program
- Receive training to build skills in public health competencies
- Access mentoring
- Help promote local public health events and services within your community
- Participate in project development to meet your community's needs

Please join us for an info session tonight from 6:30-7:30 PM on Zoom to learn more about the program and stipend, ask any questions, and get information about applying!

Did you know that 1 in 2 U.S. families with young children can’t afford enough diapers?

The Change is Good: Brookline Diaper Drive is working to wipe out diaper need by providing essential items to community members.

Starting Saturday, November 22, we’ll be collecting diapers, pull-ups, wipes, and incontinence products for older adults. Donations can be dropped off at any Brookline Public Library location or the Brookline Senior Center. For a detailed list of needed items, visit brooklinema.gov/changeisgood.

Dr. Everett R. Rhoades, a member of the Kiowa Tribe, was the first Native American director of Indian Health Service (IHS). Under his leadership, funding tripled, new hospitals and clinics were built, and care services expanded. He founded the American Association of Indian Physicians and authored over 100 scientific papers.
