If you or someone you know is on a nutrition journey, there are lots of last-minute gifts out there that can support them (and also make their time in the kitchen a little easier!) These are some of my favorite things that I or my patients swear by. These are also great gifts for foodies and home chefs!

You can get these products anywhere you like to shop for home and kitchen goods. But I can put some links in my story!

Feeling low moods more often these days? Yeah, me too. I think this collective low mood can be anything — life struggles, the never ending news cycles, or even just the darkness of winter affecting our moods and mental health. It’s okay (and valid) to feel this way! However, we should take care of ourselves even when we’re not feeling our best. What do you like to do when you have a low mood?

A lot of patients worry about how they’re making “progress” and get frustrated when they don’t feel like they’re getting the exact results they want. But progress isn’t just a number on a scale or a lab chart. Here’s what I look for as well for a more holistic view of a patient’s progress.

Once you’re further down your nutrition care path, you might be feeling something a lot of other patients struggle with once they’ve started figuring out routines and what they need in their diet: frustration. A lot of patients worry about how they’re making “progress.” But progress isn’t just a number on a scale or a lab chart. As a nutritionist, I also look for other markers that show me how a patient is progressing beyond their lab work results.

If you want your apartment to smell like Red Hots, I HIGHLY recommend you make cinnamon applesauce ornaments! Everyone will ask if they're edible -- they are NOT!

Ever cook too much pasta? It can still be good the next day! Just save it and use in this really easy recipe that I love — which is just as good for if you cooking for 1 or for your whole family.

What do you do with your leftovers?

Soup? For breakfast!? Yep! Even though it’s not super common in the US, it’s very common to have soup at breakfast time in places like Japan, Sweden, Colombia, and more! I think it’s a great way to mix it up for the first meal of the day while still getting a ton of good nutritions, especially if you’re feeling like you’re in a breakfast food rut and need some ideas (because skipping breakfast shouldn’t have to be an option). Pro tip: You can even add a cooked egg to make it more “breakfast-y.”

I like this soup from NYT, but feel free to look up anything that strikes you! Link in story and comments.

Need some breakfast inspo? Here’s another go-to recipe for a quick and nourishing breakfast that I like as a nutritionist. However, just to point out: The amount of carbs in this is great for some, but if you’re managing PCOS or similar conditions that may affect your blood sugar, you can also adjust this to be less carb-heavy. The granola certainly played a factor in this for me — so next time, I would either decrease the granola to just 1/2 of what I had here or decreased to half a banana (or whatever fruit you prefer).

That’s it! Simple. Easy. Fast!

NEW BLOG! Not only is winter a time when we want to eat comforting, warm meals on any given day, but the added pressure of holiday treats and rich foods becomes a veritable minefield. You should feel joy during the holidays, not added stress because you think you’re not eating “the right way.” You can still get your daily nutrients and allow yourself the freedom to actually enjoy a treat without the guilt. Here is what I recommend if you’re navigating this tricky part of the year.
