Some people are naturally guided towards connection and community. Though those with relational wounds might feel that it’s easier to be independent and to not risk relying on others. ACoAs have a tendency to isolate when the going gets tough. This is why I’m putting it out there that I have a few openings coming towards the end of the year with the holidays, some increasing fears, uncerainty and stress. I have ways to help people feel more resourced and supported. I can see folks virtually in NY, NJ, CT and FL and have two in-person offices in South Orange, NJ and now Montclair, NJ. Even if a friend needs to chat or may need a referral, please don’t hesitate to reach out— I have spoken to people all across the globe.

Heather Coleman, LCSW explores the first trait of the Laundry List for ACoAs and discusses the experiences of living with and isolation alongside the hope of rediscovering support and connection.

A couple of announcements for my practice:

First, I have moved to Maplewood NJ and now have an office in South Orange NJ. I am seeing some clients in-person in this NJ office. I am still seeing clients virtually from NJ, NY and CT.

Secondly, I now am licensed to practice telelhealth in Florida! Many folks have reached out across the US to me because there is a shortage of therapists at this time. And if I’m not a good fit, I often do the work to try to find someone for you!

And lastly, I’m in training to practice Presence Psychotherapy. This model, developed by Michelle Lepak, incorporates parts work (think IFS) as well as four foundations of presence resourcing via mindfulness (ground, space, compassion & oneness) to safely process trauma and to find our own inner (and outer) resourcing to feel into something much bigger and supportive.

Please reach out directly thru my DM or visit the website at www.maplewood-psychotherapy.com

Hi! I’m going to hold a Private Practice Building workshop in my office in August— 2 to 3 hours— with interactive exercises and easy to use advice to get you off the ground or tweak what you’re already done. I’ve built my practice 3 times over now and want to be able to pass this knowledge on to those who need a little boost or who don’t know where to begin. This will be held for FREE because I need feedback on what is working or not. DM me if you’d like to join— it’s for 4 people max.

Hi! Just wanted to give an update that I'm now offering Private Practice Coaching as a part of my services. I have built and re-built my practice successfully and absolutely love helping others do the same. I have a method that is tried and true and want to share it with you! As I'm building the back-end of this new niche, I wanted to hear from you what you would want to know about "Building a Practice You Love." I am designing a workshop specifically for how to begin and how to focus your energies to get the most results in the least time (and to actually enjoy the work.) Please comment below with questions & focuses so I can address them in the content!

Wrote a new article on The Caretaker or Rescuer role on the blog-- it's aimed towards the Adult Children of Alcoholics crowd but I believe anyone can relate, especially those that can tend towards burnout.

For many children that grew up in alcoholic homes or those that were raised by compromised parents (due to mental illness or any other disease), they take on the role of Caretaker or Rescuer naturally and have a hard time breaking out of this role in adult life. What’s wrong with caretaking or re
