A little about Jennifer -

Jennifer Truett is a highly sought-after clinician, coach, and USDF FEI Certified Trainer. Since 2006, she and her husband, Lenny, have owned and operated Dancing Horse Farm in Lebanon, Ohio. Beginning her career with Quarter Horses before moving into eventing, Jen discovered a passion for dressage that led her to train two horses, Lafayette HQ and Absolute Dream, from the ground up to the Grand Prix level. Her competitive achievements include winning back-to-back USDF Finals in 2022 (Intermediaire I) and 2023 (Intermediaire II). She has earned her USDF gold, silver, and bronze medals "with distinction," as well as all three freestyle bars on self-trained horses, and received the USDF Diamond Achievement Award.

Jen’s training philosophy focuses on creating a learning environment free from discomfort, fear, and stress. Her holistic approach integrates horse and rider biomechanics—informed by over a decade of study with Mary Wanless—a degree in psychology, and expertise in saddle, bridle, and bit fitting. To ensure optimal care, Jen collaborates with a global team of experts to support the education and welfare of her clients and their horses.

Driven by a commitment to wellness, Jen and Lenny also founded Savvy Horse Products. The company specializes in high-end equipment, including the Savvy Feeder, which is manufactured on their farm to facilitate natural, slow feeding. We just wrapped up an amazing two days at the Ignite for Equine Athletes 2nd Annual Sport Science Seminar for the Olympic Disciplines! Each day was filled with knowledgeable and talented speakers, as well as live demonstrations and labs. We had top riders, veterinarians, physiotherapists, and more join.

I was honored to speak at this event and cannot wait to connect with those I met, and those that I will meet in the future! If you aren’t a member of ignite already, I would highly encourage you to consider joining this sport performance group for the latest and greatest Research and information in performance horse sports medicine.

Mistakes are an inevitable part of horse riding and training, and they hold value far beyond the moments of frustration they might bring. Each misstep—whether it’s an uneven transition, a missed cue, or a wonkey movement is a lesson in disguise. Dressage, at its core, is not about perfection; it’s about partnership, growth, and the pursuit of harmony between horse and rider.

When you make a mistake, it’s a sign that you’re pushing boundaries, trying new things, and daring to improve. A perfect test teaches you little, but an imperfect one offers countless opportunities to learn and strengthen your connection with your horse. Mistakes are not failures; they are stepping stones to mastery.

Even the most experienced riders stumble at times, and every grand prix champion began with unsteady circles and uncertain hands. What sets them apart is not flawless performance but their ability to embrace errors, reflect on them, and come back stronger.

So, when you make a mistake in dressage, take a deep breath. Smile, pat your horse, and remind yourself that every journey worth taking has many moments that are imperfection. Progress isn’t about never falling; it’s about riding with a better understanding each time you do.
