Meet Derrick Collier — a resident whose determination (and sense of humor!) lit up our therapy gym every day.

After a fall that left him unable to stand or walk, Derrick arrived at University Center feeling hesitant and fearful of moving on his own. But with the steady support of Shajimon (PT) and Clarence (COTA), plus the leadership of Krishna Pendem, he slowly began to rebuild his strength — and his confidence.

Today, he’s standing with support and taking steps again with his walker. A huge victory worth celebrating!
And if you ask our team?

They’ll tell you Derrick is the funniest guy around — always ready with a joke and a smile that lifts the whole room.
We’re so proud of you, Derrick. Keep stepping forward — we’re cheering you on! 💙✨

Stories of Strength at Ellicott Center 💙

After a severe car accident left her with a broken wrist and ankle, Linda spent ten days in the trauma unit at ECMC before beginning her rehabilitation journey with us at Ellicott Center.

When she arrived, she was non–weight bearing and needed assistance from two people just to stand. But with determination in her heart — and a rehab team that pushed, supported, and cheered her on every single day — Linda started to reclaim her independence, one step at a time.

Today, she’s heading home independently with her rollator. A powerful milestone. A proud moment for all.

And along the way? Our therapists even incorporated her love of crafting, baking, ceramics, and all things creative into her therapy sessions — making progress feel personal, meaningful, and motivating.

As our team shared: “Linda worked very hard. We are very excited to have been a part of her journey to get back home independently.”

Congratulations, Linda. Your strength inspires us all. 💙✨

🎉 Welcome, Taylor Hovey — DOR at Cooperstown Center! 🎉

Taylor brings heart, hustle, and an incredible clinical foundation to her new role. A proud Bryant & Stratton grad, she’s been a dedicated PTA since 2018 — from Upstate Medical to her SNF “aha moment” during a travel assignment at Essex right before COVID. Since then, she’s made her mark across the Syracuse & Utica regions, supporting residents, teams, and communities with true passion.

Central New York raised her, Syracuse shaped her…and now she’s leading with Sigma strength. 💪

And beyond the rehab world? Taylor’s a proud mom to two tiny adventurers (19 months and 5 months!) who join her on all things camping, hiking, and exploring. 🌲✨
