Ma Huang (ephedra) is acrid, slightly bitter, and warm. It promotes a sweat, releases wind-cold, eases wheezing, and reduces edema. Traditionally, it was used to treat colds in strong, healthy patients.
In the U.S., Ma Huang is banned because of long-term misuse in diet and energy supplements. One of its alkaloids, pseudoephedrine, was once the active ingredient in Sudafed but was pulled after widespread abuse and its role in m**h production.

Today, other herbs are usually substituted for Ma Huang, but it can still be used by licensed practitioners. If you’re looking for safe and effective ways to fight colds this season, come see me for support ☻
