“I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for 47 years…
and before this meetup I had never met another T1D.”

Messages like this come in after almost every gathering.

For many adults with T1D, this life has been lived quietly and alone.

You see your doctor every few months.
But diabetes happens every day in between.
Sometimes what people needed most
was simply finding each other.

They call it “juvenile diabetes.”

But most of us grow up with it.

Decades go by.
Careers. Families. Life.
And type 1 diabetes is still there every single day.

My friend Brian — who lives with type 1, is a father of a young T1D, and a CDCES — wrote a really thoughtful blog about what happens when juvenile diabetes grows up.

So many people in this community will see themselves in this story.

Highly recommend giving it a read.

And thank you for the 💙

We are coming soon!
A group of AMAZING T1Ds will be leading a chapter of Grownup T1Ds in NYC soon. 🙌🏼
That means - community, connections, no longer feeling alone and isolated, and the uplifting social peer support that many of us have been missing for far too long. 💙
T1D doesn’t end in childhood - support shouldn’t either.

Philadelphia showed up in the best way. 🙌🏼

Saturday was our very first Grownup T1Ds meetup in Philly, and the turnout was incredible.

Adults living with type 1 diabetes gathered from all different stages of life — from newly diagnosed to decades into the journey.

The conversations were open, the laughter was loud, and the room quickly felt like a place where everyone belonged.

There’s something powerful about being surrounded by people who simply get it.

Philly, we’re really excited about this community!

Boston, this one’s for you. ☕️

Not a conference.
Not a lecture.
Not a “networking event.”

Just coffee, real conversations, and people who get it.

The Boston chapter of Grownup T1Ds is meeting this Saturday, March 7th at 9AM at Mill Cafe in Arlington, MA.

An uplifting morning with diabetes, where you don’t have to explain carb ratios, alarms, burnout, or why you checked your phone mid-sentence.

You just show up.

If you live with type 1 diabetes, or love someone who does, this room might be exactly what you didn’t know you needed.

Tag someone in Boston.
Share to your stories.
Let’s fill the room. ☕️✨

You won’t believe what managing diabetes used to look like.

Tomorrow at our first Grownup T1Ds Philly meetup, Gary Scheiner is bringing vintage diabetes tools, the actual devices people relied on decades ago.

Some of us will remember.
Some of us will be shocked.
All of us will see how far we’ve come.

There’s something powerful about holding history in your hands, especially in a room full of people who truly understand what it took.

Philly… this one is going to spark fun, insight, and great conversations!

Drop a 🩵 if you ever used the “old stuff.”

I wish you could hear the laughter that day! ✨

You might assume a room full of adults with T1D would spend the afternoon talking numbers. Burnout. Insurance. Technology.

Instead, we were sneaking Post-it affirmations onto each other’s backs! 😂

Some silly, some powerful- all positive affirmations.

Watching someone discover one on their back — that smile — hit deeper than I expected.

The truth is, so many of us have become close friends. Some instantly. We genuinely look forward to seeing each other at every meetup.

There’s a certain safety when no one has to explain why they’re low. Or high. Or tired.

It felt silly. And sweet. And surprisingly meaningful.

What would you write on a Post it note?

“Festivus for the Rest of Us.”

Yes, it’s a clever title.
But this episode wasn’t about heavy diabetes talk.

I had the honor of being a featured guest on Episode 74 of the Think Like a Pancreas podcast with Gary Scheiner — MS, CDCES, author of Think Like a Pancreas, founder of Integrated Diabetes Services, and leader within the Grownup T1Ds community in Philadelphia.

Instead of focusing on numbers and burnout…

We talked about something just as critical:

👉 The power of in-person community.
👉 Why virtual connection doesn’t meet the same needs.
👉 What happens when adults living with type 1 diabetes actually gather in real life.

There’s something different about sitting across from someone who gets it — without explanation.

We discussed how Grownup T1Ds is expanding, what we’re building, and why this movement matters right now.

Because managing T1D is one thing.

Not doing it alone? That’s everything.

If you live with T1D:
Do you feel the difference between virtual and in-person support?

I’d love to hear your experience.

Philly adults with Type 1 — this is for you!

We’re hosting the very first Grownup T1Ds meetup in Philadelphia — and the response has already been strong!

In-person.
