Ancient Song

Ancient Song is a national birth justice organization.

We do this by ensuring that all pregnant, postpartum, and parenting people of color have access to high-quality, holistic doula care and services regardless of their ability to pay. We provide doula training and services, offer community education, and advocate for policy change to support reproductive and birth justice.

Join D4D and A Better Balance on December 11, 2025 and January 8, 2026 at 7pm (EST) via Zoom to learn about Temporary Disability Insurance, a New York State benefits that can help financially support you or your clients through pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

Every couple of months Doulas 4 Democracy will be hosting knowledge and skillshares, coordinated events where folks can collectively learn and apply skills regarding real-life issues in our communities. Come through to our first one to learn how Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) entitles New York State residents to partial wage replacement during the pregnant and postpartum periods -- aka making sure you get paid while you can't work. First session we'll be discussing what TDI is and how it can help; and the second session we'll go through how to apply for TDI.

Doulas 4 Democracy has been in the lab, working hard to bring more offerings to our community and we're thrilled to announce the first meeting of our book club on Nov. 13 via zoom!

As an organizing group focused on reproductive and birth justice, and comprised of birthworkers, death workers, healers and advocates of all types, we think it's important that we make space for collective learning and dialogue to grow, digest and act together. Our first reading is "Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines" an anthology about what it means to raise humans in a world that is bent on your eradication, subjugation and exploitation, edited by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, China Martens, and Mai'a Williams. Once you register, we'll send you a digital copy. Since it is a collection of essays and stories, all we ask is that you pick one to read for discussion -- we may not pick the same one but it's that diversity and perspective that will make for a rich conversation.

Temporary disability insurance, or TDI, entitles partial-wage replacement to people employed in New York state. This is important for anyone pregnant or laboring in the near future -- in New York State pregnancy is considered a disability so these benefits cover you.
